The controversial RFEF president continues to dominate the headlines a few days after Spain won their first FIFA Women’s World Cup title in Australia in a crunch game against England, where Olga Carmona scored the winner.
Rubiales’ actions during the celebrations caused a stir among the fans, with many pointing out his apparent lack of respect for women as he couldn’t keep both his hands and mouth to himself. This has caused the Spanish FA president to apologise to the entire Spanish team for his actions.

Although emotions were high as Spain won their first Women’s World Cup, that’s not an excuse for Rubiales to plant a kiss on Jenni Hermoso’s lips during the celebrations. Despite not having any personal relationship, Luis Rubiales grabbed Jenni Hermoso during Sunday’s celebrations and kissed her on the lips, something the player didn’t read any meaning to at first. However, she was caught on camera saying, “I didn’t like that” when her teammates showed the incident video.

The president of the RFEF had initially played down the incident, saying, “There are idiots everywhere. When two people have a minor show of affection, we can’t heed idiocy.” Rubiales has been forced to backtrack on his initial statement as he has now issued an apology for his actions. “I want to apologise for all that this has caused. We both have a wonderful relationship, as with the other players. I was wrong, I have to admit,” he said in an official statement.
Jenni Hermoso is yet to make a public announcement on the incident, with her last comment on the issue being, “The president and I have a great relationship. It was a totally spontaneous mutual gesture because of the immense joy that winning a World Cup brings.”
Swedish captain Caroline Seger calls for the resignation of Luis Rubiales
Luis Rubiales’ actions have caused widespread controversy, with many calling for his resignation, including the Swedish women’s national team captain, Caroline Seger. “It is terrible and unacceptable,” she said. “I don’t understand how it can happen. I want everyone to react. There are clear problems in the Spanish Federation,” she concluded.

Other people on Twitter and other social media platforms worldwide have called for the resignation of Luis Rubiales as the president of the Spanish FA. The Federation is yet to make an official statement on the matter, and whether or not Luis Rubiales remains the president of the Spanish FA remains to be seen.
