The Buffalo Bills saw their promising season end with a three-point defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in playoff games. Meanwhile, rumors sparked about wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ future with the Bills. The bitter taste of the loss and his poor performance in the second half of the season signaled a potential shift.
Even Diggs’ offseason brawl with Bills quarterback Josh Allen was also seen as a reason for his potential departure from the team. The WR himself shared some mysterious words about his future in Buffalo.
Stefon Diggs hints at Bills exit
Diggs cited ongoing changes and the need to focus on the present rather than projecting into the future.
“I feel like I take it day by day. Obviously, there’s a lot of changes going on, a lot of things going on. I can’t really put the carriage before the horse, you know what I’m saying? But I got a great offseason in front of me to put a lot of work in and kind of build around what we got and what we’re doing,” he said via ABC News.
The receiver frankly acknowledged the offseason ahead and the opportunity to work on improving the team. However, he stopped short of providing a definitive commitment to the Bills’ future.
“I can’t tell you what the future holds, but I’m still being me. I’m ready to go no matter which way it goes.” He did not elaborate.”
Stefon Diggs’ comments have fueled speculation about his intentions, especially considering his significant contract extension signed before the 2022 season. The 4-year, $104 million deal could pose challenges for the Bills if cap space becomes a concern. Trading him before June 1 would result in a dead-cap hit of over $31 million, a financial burden the team might not be willing to bear. However, a post-June 1 trade could save around $19 million in cap space along with $8 million in dead money.
Fans troll Stefon Diggs for suggesting Bills departure
Stefon Diggs earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his three seasons with the Bills. However, he witnessed an unexpected decline in his performance during the latter half of the current season. The aftermath of his cryptic departure statement saw a barrage of criticism unleashed upon him on various social media platforms.
A fan wrote, “Biggest DIVA WR in the league.”
The WR’s lacklusterness was labeled as a factor in the divisional round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He managed just three catches for 21 yards, his lowest output of the season. Though his brother, Trevon Diggs, boldly claimed that Stefon was not used properly, fans think the Bills star is just overrated in his spot.
A netizen wrote,”U suck + ur overrated.”
Some even questioned the receiver’s motives and loyalty while urging him to reconsider his rumored desire to join another team.
A user wrote, “This nigga yo . @stefondiggs my fav receiver in the world but u be acting like u just gone go somewhere else n still be at the top of EVERY major category lol .like bro u not a free agent u wanna just go sign to KC or somebtin? Where else u gone go to?”
