LeBron James did not lie when he said that he would bring an authentic experience regarding the game to the fans with his latest collab with JJ Redick. Even after 21 years of staying on top of the NBA, King James is still going strong and has seen it all during this decades-long period.
LeBron has been interjected into a rivalry with Stephen Curry and any word about the other from the two legends has certain validation after witnessing each other throughout the years. LeBron has one such take about his on-court challenger that has received backing from someone who has been intertwined with Curry’s life. The person in question is none other than Steve Kerr.
Steve Kerr agrees with LeBron James evaluation on Stephen Curry
In the last episode of the “Mind the Game Pod” podcast, LeBron heaped praise on Stephen Curry, stating how influential the guard has been. The 39-year-old told his co-host JJ Redick how “that light skinned f—ker … that’s in Golden State” changed the game.
Bron added that Curry and Allen Iverson are the two most influential players he ever witnessed. Echoing this sentiment, Warriors HC Steve Kerr has said, “I think that is really, really accurate. And I would agree without really giving it a ton of thought. … What Steph [Curry] has done is he’s just made it normal to shoot a million threes and to shoot 32-footers. Nobody else did that.”
Steve Kerr in his tenure with the San Francisco franchise has seen many a battle between the two NBA greats, most notably the ones between the Cavaliers and Warriors. The moments Stephen Curry produced against LeBron were not only seen on the court but also under the analytical microscopes in the training sessions by Steve Kerr. So, if LeBron’s words were not enough to emphasize Stephen Curry’s greatness, Kerr’s backing surely puts it beyond doubt.
While Curry and Bron have been fierce on-court rivals, same cannot be said about their off-court acquaintance.
Stephen Curry and LeBron James friends outside the court?
Stephen Curry and LeBron James have remained two of the pillars of the modern-day NBA despite their ageing years. The duo has fought hammer and tongs over the NBA Championships for four straight years from the 2015-2018 NBA Finals. Despite Steph Curry winning the majority of the titles in that span, the mutual respect was established much earlier than that.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Curry revealed how LeBron helped him adapt to the league with his valuable input. Talking about the “complex relation,” the Dubs man said, “It’s complex because you go from you know me playing in the tournament him coming to watch me coming in as a young rookie in the league and him giving me advice on how to you know get through some of the early struggles that I was going to go through as a player to you know the four finals appearances in a row playing against each other.”
LeBron reciprocated the feeling by saying, Curry is the only player in the game today with whom he wants to play. During an episode of “The Shop” the NBA’s top scorer said, “Steph Curry is the one I want to play with for sure in today’s game.”
Throughout the history of the game, there have been many frenemies but not all have gone on to become the giants that LeBron James and Stephen Curry are. Their ever-existent show of respect only leaves a positive message for the generations to come that transcends the boundaries of the game.
