Having the right connections is one of the greatest advantages to have in the world of sport, and Dan Quinn recently proved it. One text from the Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr influenced the decision of the Washington Commanders during their coach search.
The Washington Commanders were on a coaching hunt, trying to find a suitable coach for their squad. They were browsing through multiple possible candidates but ended up signing Dan Quinn for the job.
How did Steve Kerr’s message lead to Commanders signing Dan Quinn?
It was recently reported that Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors from the NBA texted the higher management of the Washington Commanders insisting that they sign Dan Quinn as the head coach. The news about Kerr’s involvement was reported on Saturday by John Keim, a Washington Commanders insider for ESPN.
According to Keim, Kerr texted Bob Myers, the owner of Washington Commanders and the Golden State Warriors influencing his decision during the coaching search. “He is your guy; you have got to hire him,” said Kerr’s message. It was also revealed that Kyle Shanahan also texted the newly appointed general manager of the Commanders vouching for Quinn.
Steve Kerr and Dan Quinn’s friendship
Steve Kerr’s actions in favor of Dan Quinn may come as a surprise to many fans who do not know about their friendship. However, the truth is that Kerr and Quinn have been friends for quite some time now. Their agents work at the same company, and as more interactions happened between the two coaches, a strong friendship blossomed. Kerr recently became the highest-paid NBA coach in history after he signed a two-year extension with the Warriors.
It is understandable why he would vouch for his friend, as their friendship has grown into a close bond over the years. Kerr is a championship coach who has won the NBA championship four times in his term as the HC for the Dubs. As the saying goes, talent recognizes other talents, so it was reassuring for Bob Myers to listen to his coach from the NBA and give Dan Quinn a chance.
However, he was also backed up by other supporters who vouched for Quinn. Kerr’s advice was more reliable as he is a fourth-time NBA champion as a Head Coach for the Dubs. It was an interesting spectacle to witness where an NBA coach helped an NFL coach to get his dream.
