After wrapping up the last campaign with a 9-7-1 record, the New York Giants are expected to have a good start with their $160 million quarterback, Daniel Jones. Yet, they kicked off the season with a 0-40 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and continued the losing streak, failing to present themselves propelled on both sides of the ball.
Nevertheless, the team missed their star quarterback during their latest defeat with the Buffalo Bills due to injury. Regretfully, as they prepare for their Week 7 matchup, the quarterback’s missing streak is still ongoing, just like their losing skid.
Daniel Jones to sit out second game with neck injury
In Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, Daniel Jones had a neck injury and was benched for the rest of the game. The signal-caller quarterback was a limited participant in practice this week after sitting out the Week 6 match.
Although the team has not officially revealed Jones’ game status, NFL.com published a report on the availability of several players in the league, citing Jones’ Sunday matchup against the Washington Commanders as dubious.
But before that, on Friday, Head Coach Brian Daboll gave their starter an open window to make a comeback this week.
“We’ll see. We’re talking to medical people and just take it day-by-day here.”
In Week 6, Jones was replaced by Tyrod Taylor, who completed 24 out of 36 passes for 200 yards without any interceptions or touchdowns. If the team’s starting quarterback is sidelined in Week 7, he will get his second straight start.
Giants falling short of season expectations with 1-5 start
The Giants team appears to be playing more for the purpose of appearing on the field than for the purpose of winning the game after being defeated by the Cowboys. However, the squad overcame the Cardinals in the Week 2 game, giving the supporters hope that the winning run would continue. They resumed their losing streak after the game the following week, and they lost every game after that.
In addition to their heartbreaking loss to the Cowboys, they also suffered significant defeats at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. The team’s attack and defense were in turmoil for most of these games.
Up until Week 5, Jones completed 884 passes for 884 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. His interception percentage increased dramatically from 1.1% to 4.6%. Aside from the quarterback, another factor that significantly contributed to their offensive difficulties was their inability to properly tackle the receiver position in the off-season.
In addition, the Giants are supposedly 31st in yards per game (252.0) and 32nd in points per game (11.5) in the NFL, indicating how challenging this season has been for them. It is safe to say that the team will struggle hard against the 3-3 Commanders without Daniel.
