Suns’ Kevin Durant shockingly reveals on-court altercation with Draymond Green as key reason behind Warriors’ exit

The addition of Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors roster made them one of the best in the NBA and helped them win two titles. However, their relationship failed after only three years. Draymond Green was instrumental in Durant’s signing with the Brooklyn Nets, where he would play with Kyrie Irving.

To explain his decision to leave the Warriors, Durant recently discussed the historic Draymond Green incident on the All the Smoke podcast. Durant, who is now playing for the Phoenix Suns, looks back and realizes that even dynasties with record lineups in the NBA inevitably fail.

KD opens up about decision to leave Warriors

Kevin Durant and Draymond Green’s brawl on the court in 2018 will forever be remembered as a low point in the Golden State Warriors’ history. A late turnover by Draymond Green during a regular season game against the Los Angeles Clippers ratcheted up the tension between the two.

During an interview for a podcast, he said, “I’m just so confused at that point because he never ever did nothing like that before. Everybody on the bench was confused, too. He started going off. For him to say that type of sh*t to me, it just threw me for a loop. I just started isolating myself after that ’cause I didn’t feel like nobody really talked about it.”

Durant further said: “It was just swept under the rug. And to me, it was just like, ‘We can move past it but let’s all talk about it cause that’s a huge moment in this whole dynasty.’”

Durant attempted to bridge the divide by addressing and fixing the problem, but his efforts to keep the dynasty together ultimately failed. As a result of this, the team’s performance dropped to the tune of a 15-50 record in the 2019-20 season.

The episode marked the end of the Warriors’ era of dominance and served as a teaching moment about the value of teamwork and open lines of communication.

How long did Kevin Durant play for the Warriors?

Kevin Durant was a great addition to the Warriors for all three of his seasons there. His 25.8 pts,7.1 rebs and 5.4 asts. average was evidence of his scoring ability and offensive skills. With Durant in the lineup, the Warriors were unstoppable.

The squad benefited from his spot-on shooting and all-around play. Kevin Durant was a major contributor to the Warriors’ two titles, along with other all-stars. His tenure with the Warriors will go down in club history as a time of great success.
