Barcelona saved Joao Felix from his misery at Atletico Madrid, and the Portuguese forward is doing well to justify the club’s faith in him. Felix had fallen out with Diego Simeone for a few seasons, and the former Benfica man didn’t manage to secure a permanent move after his loan to Chelsea in the second half of last season.
However, Felix is experiencing a different fortune at Barcelona despite the club’s overall struggle under Xavi this season. Super agent Jorge Mendes has now provided an update on Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo’s future at the Catalan club as Barcelona try to mount a push to salvage their season despite the ongoing financial crisis.
Jorge Mendes provides update on Joao Felix, Joao Cancelo’s Barcelona future
Barcelona gave hope to outcasts from Manchester City and Atletico Madrid when they signed Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on loan deals last summer. Cancelo had fallen out badly with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, spending the previous season on loan at Bayern Munich, with the German club deciding against signing him permanently.
Joao Felix also had a similar situation with Atletico Madrid after falling out with Diego Simeone. Felix spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea, impressing a few times but not enough to convince Chelsea to make the deal permanent.
Barcelona snapped both Portuguese players with the hope of making their deals permanent. Super agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed the Catalan club’s intentions for the players.
“Barcelona want to keep both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo beyond this season; they want to make the deals permanent,” the super agent said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
Joao Felix’s season so far
Although Joao Felix outperformed every other Chelsea player last season, he was sent back to Atletico Madrid, where he made a strong “come get me” plea to Barcelona after calling the club his childhood dream. The Catalan giants quickly reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign him on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent.
Since joining the Spanish giants, Felix has been one of the brightest stars in Barcelona’s bleak squad. Felix has played in 26 games for Barcelona in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. Four of those goals have come in La Liga, while three have come in the UEFA Champions League.
