It seems that soccer is losing it’s legends and greats with the recent departure of German great Franz Beckenbaur from the earthly plane. Sven-Goran Eriksson was also recently afflicted with a situation that caused worry across the soccer community.
Sven-Goran Eriksson was the first coach from outside the nation to coach the English national soccer team between 2001 and 2006. Albeit he had the ‘Golden Generation’ at his disposal, he never managed to make any significant contribution. However, the respected soccer professional has now shared a dangerous predicament about his life.
What sort of cancer does Sven-Goran Eriksson have?
The former England manager collapsed recently while on a 5-kilometer run. He had fainted, and he was taken to a hospital. During that period, everyone feared the worst, and diagnoses were done on him. After some hours, he was given very bad news.
Sven-Goran Eriksson has been afflicted with cancer, and more specifically, pancreatic cancer. It has spread to the rest of his body and is not operable, meaning it cannot be removed completely. He is on medicine currently, but it will only be able to slow down the growing cancer.
He said, “I’m not in any major pain. But I’ve been diagnosed with a disease that you can slow down but you cannot operate. So it is what it is.” Sven also shared after the news of the cancer, he had suffered five strokes in a single day, though all were small.
Health issues were afflicting him for quite a while, and he had to retire from the soccer spotlight. He was last the sporting director of Swedish third-tier club Karistad Football eleven months ago. Since then, he has been quiet about the sport.

Recently, Sven-Goran Eriksson even spoke with a Swedish radio station about his cancer. There he gave a very dark predicament.
He said that the doctors told him that he would live for a year at best, “I have an illness that’s serious. Best case a year, I have worst case a lot less. It’s impossible to say exactly, so it’s better to not think about it.” The cancer is inevitable at this stage and will claim his life eventually.
Since he revealed this, tributes have flown in from the soccer world, with many of his former players, such as Wayne Rooney, expressing their condolences for him.
However, despite such grave news, he has said that he is still positive about life, will continue to do the things he loves, and is in constant contact with his children and such. We wish Sven-Goran Eriksson and his family the best of times in this crucial period for them.
