The last few weeks have undoubtedly been a rough road for Anthony Edwards, the rising star of the Minnesota Timberwolves. With his on-court productivity never in question, Edwards has found himself under intense scrutiny due to his off-court shenanigans. Recently, leaked texts have brought him unwanted attention and speculation.
The NBA player expressed his disappointment with the leaked texts, as he unequivocally denied the alleged offer to fund an abortion for model Dream Paige, whose name was mentioned in the leaked texts and firmly declared that the accusations are baseless and far from the truth.
Anthony Edwards addresses leaked texts
Minnesota Timberwolves ace Anthony Edwards has finally broken his silence on the recent scandal involving leaked texts that alleged an offer to fund an abortion for model Dream Paige.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard issued a public statement via his social media accounts, addressing the controversial comments made in the text message conversation as he admitted to making comments “in the heat of the moment” that are not a reflection of his true beliefs or the person he aspires to be.
In his statement, Edwards stressed the importance of supporting and empowering women to make their own decisions about their bodies. He acknowledged that the leaked text messages contained insensitive and inappropriate responses, including a refusal to accept the pregnancy and a suggestion to get an abortion. The messages also included a photo of a wire transfer totaling $100,000, indicating a willingness to provide financial assistance.
Edwards, 22, expressed his commitment to addressing these personal matters privately and made it clear that he will not provide any further comments at this time. Despite the controversy, he was on the court on Monday night when the Timberwolves faced off against the Miami Heat, winning 112-108.
Chris Finch discusses Edwards’ continuing development
Chris Finch, head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, addressed the recent controversy surrounding rookie player Anthony Edwards.
Edwards found himself in the spotlight after text messages were leaked by a woman claiming he had impregnated her and attempted to persuade her to have an abortion. In response to the situation, Finch acknowledged that Edwards’ education and maturity are still a work in progress.
“We will be having ongoing conversations about such things. I think it’s important to state that it’s not reflective of our organization, our values, for sure,” Finch said.
The coach emphasized that the organization does not condone such behavior and that ongoing conversations will be held with Edwards regarding this matter. However, Finch also emphasized the personal nature of the issue and assured that any discussions with Edwards will remain private.
“And as a young man, it’s clear that the education and maturity of Anthony Edwards continues to be a work in progress. Beyond that, it’s a personal matter for him and any conversations that we have will remain private.” added Finch.
The controversy erupted when model Paige Jordae posted alleged text messages from Edwards on her social media. The messages included an offer from Edwards to pay for an abortion and a posted wire transfer for $100,000. As the posts quickly went viral, Edwards took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to issue a statement.
Despite being questionable due to a hip injury, Edwards started in the Timberwolves’ game against the Miami Heat on Monday night and hopes he can recover both physically and mentally going ahead into the season.
