Takehiro Tomiyasu has been a revelation for Arsenal and fans cannot be more happy with the fullback. The Japanese international has been a breath of fresh air since last season, when he solidified his status in the first team. He is now one of their best players in the defense and has the trust of manager Mikel Arteta as well.
Being a young. versatile player performing well in the Premier League, many clubs were getting interested in the player. But Arsenal wants to keep him and has now decided to extend their partnership with the player for many years to come.
Takehiro Tomiyasu extended his contract till 2026
Arsenal have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed a new, long-term contract until 2026. There will also be an option to extend it for one more year until 2027. This confirms the rumors from last month and shows part of Arsenal’s new transfer strategy, which involves long term contracts with existing players and focusing on and bringing in younger talents.
Tomiyasu had first arrived at the club in 2021 from Serie A side Bologna. Since then, he has made 78 appearances for the club, becoming a regular starter last season. His previous deal ran until 2025, with an option to extend for one more year. With Arsenal’s recent success and his involvement in it, it was due for him to be awarded a bigger contract with a better salary, which is said to have been doubled.

His contract extension follows that of fellow Gunners teammates Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, and Ben White, who is currently also close to agreeing. It is both part of their plan to secure their future and was also mainly done to ward off interest from any potential clubs.

Manager Mikel Arteta appreciated Takehiro Tomiyasu and was delighted for his new contract, “Tomi is loved by everyone and has been an integral part of the squad since joining us. The way he trains, with his desire and determination to be the best version of himself every day, is admirable.” Sporting director Edu also showed his happiness at securing a key player, while Tomiyasu himself said he is forever dedicated to the club.
Tomiyasu has been integral in defense, and has been a crucial part of their squad that almost won the Premier League last season, and is challenging for it this season. He is very versatile playing as a right back and even into midfield, while displaying an immense amount of work rate and discipline to the team’s tactics.
Arsenal will be very happy to have secured a young, talented player like Tomiyasu for years to come. He will undoubtedly help them to challenge and win trophies, and continue to play beautiful soccer.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is currently playing for Japan with some World Cup Qualifier games in the international break, but will return for Arsenal’s crucial season-defining match against Manchester City on March 31.
