Roger Federer’s legendary status goes beyond retirement. After almost one and a half years away from the court, the Swiss star still has more than thirteen sponsors under his belt. During Federer’s time on the court, he was the only player who played 1,526 singles matches, winning 20 Grand Slams, lifting 103 ATP Tour titles in singles, and only taking 13 medicals in his 24-year career.
Federer, who has been a long-time brand ambassador for Credit Suisse, has signed an extensive deal with UBS Group AG that will run until at least 2025 to rival other sponsors.
USB affirm commitment to Roger Federer despite Credit Suisse take over
UBS Group AG has announced that they will keep sponsoring tennis legend Roger Federer till 2025, leaving the door open for a possible extension deal with the 20-time Grand Slam winner following the takeover of Credit Suisse. Roger Federer, who has been a long-time brand ambassador for Credit Suisse, which has several sports sponsorship deals under their belt but have been under scrutiny following banking take over early this year.
“We will honor any sponsorship commitments we have combined at least until the end of 2025,” UBS Chief Executive Officer Sergio Ermotti said this at the Forum des 100 conference in Lausanne. Ermotti said the bank isn’t commenting on single sponsorship deals, before adding “we are pleased to have Roger.”
“Of course we need to review what we do,” he said, adding that the criterion for a review is what a partnership brings in terms of commercial value and social value. “I’m very happy to have football as part of our sponsorships.”
UBS Group has sponsored the likes of Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team since 2011, Monaco Grand Prix; the NHL’s New York Islanders have played in the UBS Arena since 2021 and recently began sponsoring teams in the ice hockey league. While Credit Suisse on the other hand has been the major sponsor of the Swiss football Association since 1993 and also partnered with Zurich FC to build their football stadium which is currently called the Credit Suisse Arena, and has had a contract in place with Federer since at least 2009.
The commitment by Sergio Pietro Ermotti, the president of local amateur club FC Collina d’Oro in his hometown, means that Credit Suisse’s sponsorship of the Swiss national football team and the Swiss Super League would remain in place even with the takeover.

In 2020, the Swiss legend became the world’s most paid athlete beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and was No. 10 in 2023.Federer biggest sponsorship deal came in 2018 from a popular Japanese apparel brand Uniqlo, which locked him with a ten-year, $300 million deal.
Roger Federer, who has an exclusive shoe line also has sponsorship deals with the likes of Barilla, Credit Suisse Group (ADS), JURA, Lindt & Sprungli, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Mercedes-Benz, NetJets, On, RIMOWA, Rolex, Sunrise Communications AG, Switzerland Tourism, and Wilson Sporting Goods. Also, he has won $130 million in prize money in his career.
According to Forbes, Roger Federer’s foundation has raised more than $50 million and supported and educated 1.5 million children in Africa since its launch.
