After selecting CJ Stroud as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans wasted no time letting him do the quarterbacking job for them. The starter has also proved their decision right by making an immediate impact in his rookie season, leading all first-year signal-callers in passing yards.
The Texans are now sitting in the second spot in the AFC South with a 5-4 mark. They are fresh off a week-10 win over Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals team that made Stroud and his other teammates go crazy in locker room dance. Besides his on-field excellence, the QB has recently garnered praise from the NFL community due to his connection with religion.
CJ Stroud receives praise for speaking on his faith
Young QBs like the San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy are surrounded by some heavy weapons but Stroud is arguably the lone warrior in the Texans squad. Despite lacking strong troops beside him, the young star is only getting better day by day and even broke NFL GOAT Tom Brady’s record of attempting 162 straight pass attempts without throwing an interception back in 2016. CJ recorded 186 passes without an interception a few days ago.
However, despite outshining many signal-callers in the league with such a short tenure, the Texans’ star remained humble while talking about his achievements lately; instead, he put all the praise on God for these records.
“God wouldn’t put anything on me that I can’t handle. It’s not about me, it’s about him and his glory. So that’s where it comes from, God made me like that. I don’t deserve his grace and his mercy, but he still gives it to me and I love him for that.”
With this intense faith in God, the QB once again stole the hearts of the NFL fans as they rallied on social media to gush about it.
A person wrote, “Just keep finding more reasons to like this guy.”
In Western culture, people are shy about sharing their religious values, but the first-round pick set an example by being bold about his faith, and many people raved about him for this statement.
The media personality Jon Root wrote, “Amen, CJ. I would disagree that God does give us plenty of things we can’t handle on our own, which emphasizes our need for Him and Christian community but I’m so happy to see CJ use his platform to praise our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s refreshing in a culture that denies and rebels against God daily.”
The QB has just started his NFL career and still has a long way to go. Some fans didn’t halt back from wishing him great success in his career ahead.
A fan wrote,” A man of God too I love this kid. I hope he continues to succeed and wins multiple Super Bowls in his life.”
Before entering into professional football, Stroud said his God-given assignment isn’t first and foremost to play football. Even days ago, he even praised God after scoring a game-winning touchdown, and in social media, he regularly shares posts about his faith.

Besides being one of the most promising signal-callers in the NFL right now and gaining praise from elite players like LeBron James, Stroud is the son of a pastor and believes in Christianity. He earlier revealed how his childhood was all about the religion’s festivals like Christmas and Thanksgiving.
“So, I grew up in the church. My father was a pastor, and that was a lot of my early upbringing, man. Just a lot of Christmas, a lot of Thanksgiving, a lot of holidays in the church and I kind of fell away from it when I was around 11-12 years old,” he said via Faith On The Field.
The Texans star also disclosed that he once moved away from Christianity in his adolescence, but he regained faith in college.
“Then when I got to college, I found to know Christ for myself, so definitely something that I’m still learning to this day. I’m definitely not perfect in any means or way. I am a Sinner and I definitely do repent of my sins.”
Stroud said his relationship with Jesus has always kept him humble while motivating him to focus on doing the right things. He disclosed that his uncle runs a Bible study every Thursday. The QB said he talks to his uncle weekly, who regularly sends him scriptures.
