The Rock secures ownership rights to multiple catchphrases and it does matter

Dwayne Johnson, widely recognized by his ring name, The Rock, has entertained millions of fans with his electrifying moves, his hilarious jokes, and his iconic catchphrases. In January 2024, The Rock achieved a significant milestone in his career by joining the board of directors of TKO Group, the umbrella organization encompassing WWE and UFC.

As part of his deal to join the TKO board, The Rock has recently finalized an intellectual property agreement granting him complete ownership of his ring name, ‘The Rock’, as well as several of his iconic catchphrases.

The Rock owns IP rights for multiple names and catchphrases

On March 1, The Rock officially finalized an intellectual property agreement, granting him ownership of over 25 of his catchphrases, as well as his nicknames including ‘The Brahma Bull’, ‘The People’s Champion’, and ‘The Great One’.

Additionally, The Rock now possesses the rights to iconic catchphrases such as ‘Know Your Role and Shut Your Mouth’, ‘If You Smell What The Rock Is Cooking’, and ‘The most electrifying man in sports and entertainment’. This agreement marks a significant victory for The Rock, allowing him to utilize his catchphrases and nicknames without any obligations or royalties to WWE.

For the past 20 years, WWE has held the rights to The Rock’s name and catchphrases, controlling their registration and usage. Consequently, The Rock was required to pay royalties to WWE whenever he utilized them outside of WWE-related ventures.

Furthermore the reports confirm that The Rock has agreed to offer licensing services for his name and phrases back to WWE and will also continue to collaborate with WWE.

The Rock’s next WWE appearance confirmed

The Rock shocked the WWE Universe, when he made a surprise appearance at the SmackDown episode in February 16. With his arrival, The People’s Champion officially aligned himself with The Bloodline, which includes the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Jimmy Uso.

The Rock, who received a lot of criticism from the WWE Universe, after his controversy with The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, decided to turn heel and went against the WWE fans, who supported Rhodes.

Last week, WWE officially announced the appearance of The Great One, for the upcoming SmackDown episodes. WWE has confirmed that The Rock will appear on three consecutive episodes of SmackDown, starting from March 1 in Glendale, Arizona. The Rock will also be in Dallas, Texas on March 8, and in Memphis, Tennessee on March 15.

At the Elimination Chamber 2024, Rhodes, who was a special guest in the Grayson Waller Effect, issued a challenge to The Rock, asking him for a match, anytime, anywhere. With the confirmation of The Rock’s appearance on tomorrow’s SmackDown, fans are eagerly anticipating whether he will accept Rhodes’ challenge.
