Injuries affect some players mentally more than others, and eyes are on Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois to see how he recovers from a potentially career-threatening injury. Real Madrid failed to win any major trophy last season, losing to Manchester City in the Champions League and Barcelona in the race to win La Liga.
This season probably couldn’t have gone worse for the Los Blancos as they’ve lost two of the team’s most important players – a center-back and their ever-present goalkeeper – to injuries. Carlo Ancelotti must inspire his team to win titles in his last season as Real Madrid’s manager.
Real Madrid GK possibly to miss the whole 2023-2024 season due to injury
Real Madrid’s season got off to the worst start possible as Thibaut Courtois damaged his ACL just before the team’s first game. The Belgian went down in training ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Athletic Club.
Madrid released a statement on the goalkeeper, updating fans about the Belgian’s condition. “After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” the club said in a statement.

ESPN had predicted the Belgian might be out for at least six months, but after his surgery, reports now suggest that Courtois may miss the rest of the season. The club released another statement confirming the success of Courtois’ surgery by Dr. Manuel Leyes but failed to indicate when fans should expect the goalkeeper back in action.
This has left Real Madrid in a problematic position very early in the season, prompting them to sign Chelsea’s Kepa on loan till next June at least. Courtois is not the player Real would want to spend a lengthy period on the sidelines as the club also lost Eder Militao in their first game against Bilbao.
Real Madrid has to shit their focus on defensive reinforcements and getting a recognized striker before the transfer window closes now that Kylian Mbappe looks set to spend at least another season at PSG following Neymar’s departure to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.
What is Real Madrid’s contract with Thibaut Courtois? Explained
Real Madrid is one of the senior players of Real Madrid, and with the new contract he signed in 2021, he is expected to stay at the club until 2026. The former Chelsea goalkeeper forced a move to the Spanish capital in 2018, citing being closer to his family as his reason for leaving London for Madrid.
Real Madrid now have to hope Courtois recovers earlier than the predicted timeline, with Kepa’s loan at the club expiring at the end of the season.
