The NBA released its player rankings for 2023 in partnership with ESPN and SportsCenter on Instagram. The rankings feature players who were mostly expected to be there due to their performance in the past season.
Top-level talents made the list including the likes of Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, and others. However, the placement of players in the top 10 has many fans in awe and has left them disappointed as one fan even called out the list to be “embarrassing.”
Revealing 2023 NBA player rankings
NBA revealed the top 10 players in the league for 2023 in their player rankings list. According to the NBA, the list is based on votes cast by ESPN’s panel of experts. The tenth position is claimed by the big man of the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis. The ninth position went to another Lakers star, probably the biggest Lakers star in history, Lebron James. This pick is getting heat from the fans as LeBron’s performance last season deserved better than the ninth position.
The eighth position went to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the seventh place was claimed by none other than Kevin Durant. Again the placement of Durant is also being questioned by the fans as they think he had a good season despite suffering an injury. The sixth place went to Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and the fifth place was awarded to the Warriors ace, Stephen Curry. The placement of Steph has the Warriors fans riled up as they argue that Steph is at least top three in the league.
Luka Doncic holding the fourth position is the most controversial placement in the entire rankings among fans. The third position was claimed by Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, preceded by Nikola Jokic in the second position. According to the NBA rankings, the best player is Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, who holds the first position on the list, and there’s no denying that he deserves that spot. There is a debate on whether Jokic should be number one and Giannis number two, as both were excellent in the last season.
Fans reacts to LeBron James ranking
Fans were left stunned after the rankings were released and are flooding the comments sections with their opinions. Most of them seem to be upset over the ranking of LeBron James, who was placed in the ninth position of the list. One fan expressed his dissatisfaction with the league and commented, “ NBA gotta stop ranking NBA players man this is embarrassing.”
Another fan expressed his disappointment on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander being placed above LeBron James and commented, “Shai above Lebron… come on no.”
It was not only LeBron but many fans were also disappointed with the placement of Luka Doncic saying that he is not better than many of the lower-ranked players on the list. One fan asked, “ When did Luka become a better player than Steph, KD, BRON, and AD?” flaming the NBA for their rankings
