Tom Brady to Robert Kraft on Patriots picking him: I’m the best decision your organization has ever made

Many quarterbacks on the NFL field will come and go, but the dynasty that Tom Brady left with the New England Patriots will never be forgotten by NFL fans. Meanwhile, just as he faced challenges during his collegiate career, Brady encountered hurdles during his early days in the NFL.

Yet, despite these initial setbacks, his unwavering determination propelled him to legendary status in the NFL. The narrative has once again resurfaced as discussions swirl around his pivotal self-confidence as the face of the Patriots franchise.

Rookie Tom Brady once left Robert Kraft speechless

Apple TV recently unveiled “The Patriots Dynasty,” showcasing memorable moments from the New England Patriots’ illustrious history. Among the highlights was a notable exchange between quarterbacks Tom Brady and Robert Kraft that quickly gained attention. During a candid conversation, Brady confidently asserted to Kraft that he was the best decision the organization had ever made.

“Mr. Kraft, I want you to know, I’m Tom Brady. And I’m the best decision your organization has ever made.”

Brady’s bold declaration caught Kraft off guard, yet the owner acknowledged the young quarterback’s self-assurance. While Kraft may not have fully grasped the significance of Brady’s words at the time, he responded with a simple acknowledgment, expressing curiosity about what the future held.

“Okay. From your lips to God’s ears, let’s see,” Kraft said.

Little did he know then that Brady’s words would ring true in the years to come, as he would go on to lead the Patriots to unprecedented success. The Patriots team, which had previously been unable to secure a Lombardi trophy, ultimately saw his words come to fruition.

The 46-year-old quarterback guided them to a Super Bowl victory six times, etching their name in history as back-to-back Super Bowl winners in 2003-04.

What happened to Tom Brady’s 2000 NFL Draft?

With an impressive resume from Michigan, Tom Brady’s accomplishments went unnoticed during the 2000 NFL draft. The quarterback had to wait until the sixth round, by which time six other quarterbacks had already been chosen, per Sportskeeda.

His eventual draft position as the 199th overall pick by the New England Patriots proved that they weren’t in immediate need of a quarterback, as they already had Drew Bledsoe. TB12 was initially chosen to serve as Bledsoe’s backup.

Reflecting on those moments in “The Patriots Dynasty,” the former Patriots player shared his frustration during that moment.

“I knew I wasn’t a first-round pick. I thought maybe second or third round. And the third round came and I was like, ‘nothing,” he said.

His less-than-imposing physical appearance during the NFL combine likely contributed to his draft position.

However, Brady not only secured the full-time starter role for the Patriots but also maintained it for two decades.

While Kraft may have had reservations about the draft pick, the sixth-round selection ultimately validated his worth on the field, emerging as a draft steal with four Super Bowl MVPs and three NFL MVPs to his name.
