Jinder Mahal, also known as Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, started his journey in WWE in 2010 and went on to become the WWE Champion, which he won over Randy Orton in April 2017. The former 3MB member lasted for 6 months as the WWE reigning champion.
AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently compared Mahal’s win drought with Samoa Joe, who is the current AEW World Champion, after HOOK called out Joe’s win against MJF. On Twitter, Khan criticized HOOK when he said Jinder has a long losing streak yet he became champion, but in Somoa’s case, it is the reverse.
Jinder Mahal’s year-long struggle reflects the USA’s moral victory
The Modern Day Maharaja Jinder Mahal, who recently called out The Rock for a match, has participated in more than 700 matches over his 14-year career with the WWE. However, he has lost more matches than he has won. Mahal returned in 2016 with a more aggressive persona after the company released him in 2014, and he was even considered for the WWE title.
During a recent episode of Monday Night Raw, Mahal confronted Seth Rollins, and a physical altercation ensued after their discussion took an unexpected turn. Mahal tried to attack Rollins, who managed to evade him and counterattacked, nearly performing his signature finishing move, the Stomp, on the Modern Day Maharaja. Mahal quickly retreated backstage.
Sources indicate that Mahal has not won a single match in any WWE event in over a year. Despite his previous success as the World Champion, his character seems to have been neglected and overlooked, which has not gone unnoticed by Tony Khan.
Tony Khan acknowledges the significance of featuring Mahal in a high-profile match
On January 9, AEW CEO Tony Khan posted a tweet in which he criticized HOOK for calling out Samoa Joe, the reigning AEW World Champion. Khan pointed out that WWE superstar Jinder Mahal, who had not won any matches in over a year, was given a title shot. He questioned why there was no outrage in Mahal’s case, implying that HOOK’s criticism was unwarranted.
“A moral victory for the USA is one win more than their World Title challenger Jinder Mahal has in the past 364 days… because it’s been literally a full year since he won a match. You really put AEW in our place, getting Jinder Mahal in a big match on your TV show. Do it more often.” wrote Tony Khan in his tweet.
