Tottenham Hotspur is hyperactive in the January transfer market, actively working to make necessary amendments to the squad. They aim to address issues ranging from a lack of options in defense and midfield to bolstering their attack to rejuvenate their performance in the latter half of the season.
Recently, they acquired the services of Timo Werner on loan to cover for the absence of Son Heung-Min, who’s off to the AFC Asian Cup 2024. In defense, they brought in Radu Dragusin as a long-term investment. Moving into the final few weeks of January, they are preparing for a major overhaul.
Tottenham interested in Ander Barrenetxea
Tottenham are reportedly interested in roping in Real Sociedad’s sensational winger, Ander Barrenetxea, to reinforce their offensive firepower. Ange Postecoglou has limited choices considering the injuries of Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon, both sidelined, alongside their captain Son Heung-Min, who’s unavailable for selection.
The 22-year-old Spaniard has captured the attention of Premier League clubs with his performances in La Liga. Since making his debut at 16, becoming the league’s youngest debutant, Barrenetxea has played in 136 appearances for the La Liga side. This term, he has made 22 appearances, contributing six goals across all competitions.
Tottenham looking to offload Gil, Tanganga
The London club has already witnessed outgoing transfers, with fullbacks Sergio Reguilón and Djed Spence leaving on loan. Additionally, Eric Dier has moved to Bayern Munich to join his former Tottenham talisman Harry Kane in the Bundesliga, and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has joined Los Angeles FC in the MLS.
Now, they are planning to get rid of their Spanish midfielder Bryan Gill on a short-term loan to secure regular playing time, with interest coming from clubs like Real Sociedad, Sevilla, and Fiorentina. Moreover, defender Japhet Tanganga is set to join Millwall on loan following his return from Augsburg.
Hojbjerg reportedly attracting Napoli interest
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur might have to bid farewell to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, following significant interest from Serie A champions Napoli. The Danish international has been a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s lineup, making 22 appearances this season, despite not being satisfied with his role in the team.
The 28-year-old midfielder joined the North London club in 2020 for £15 million plus add-ons from Southampton and is under contract with the club until 2025. Napoli are keen to strengthen their midfield, eagerly awaiting Spurs’ decision, which could come in the closing days of the winter transfer window.
