The guard for the Atlanta Hawks, Trae Young, suffered a concussion in the match against the Cleaveland Cavaliers on Sunday. He has been a key player for the Hawks and his absence would hurt the team.
There has been no announcement from the Hawks regarding his current health condition. The Hawks have put him under the concussion protocol and his return for now is indefinite.
Trae suffered a concussion after Isaac Okoro from the Cavs crashed into him. Young was attempting to shut down Okoro and prevent him from taking a shot alongside his teammate.
However, Okoro decided to drive into the paint, attempting a layup. In the process, his elbow struck Trae Young in the face, causing the Hawks guard to fall to the ground. He was quickly sidelined as the medical staff diagnosed him with a concussion.
How long is recovery from concussion protocol?
Trae Young has been put under concussion protocol and there has been no announcement of his return. There is no fixed time on when a person can return to play professional-level sports after being concussed. So for now Young’s absence is indefinite, however, most people recover from concussion in a few weeks.
Young would need to do some light aerobic exercises to get back in his rhythm and then he would have to do the NBA’s mandated return to participation process which would require him to display symptom-free behavior to be medically clear for participation.
Overall NBA fans can speculate Trae Young to be out for at least a month or so as there are no guarantees when it comes to head injuries. On the other hand, Young’s teammate Dejounte Murray can see a trade very soon.
