WWE’s Rated-R Superstar Edge has been one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE. Ever since returning to the company in 2020, Edge battled against one of the top names of the company such as Roman Reigns and Finn Balor. However, it looks like his time in the company is being cut short again, after a shocking revelation from his trainer.
In 2011, Edge announced that he was retiring from wrestling, much to the shock of fans. According to the Rated-R Superstar, he had suffered a neck injury and needed to undergo surgery. He also talked about how after an MRI, the doctors advised him to retire from wrestling altogether, as one more bump could potentially end his life. The Ultimate Opportunist eventually made his return in 2020 at the Men’s Royal Rumble event amidst a much-deserved pop. Although he didn’t win Royal Rumble that year, he won it next year and went on to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal title at WrestleMania 37.
Trainer reveals date, place for Edge to retire
Unlike his initial retirement, which came as a surprise, Edge has been talking about retiring from WWE around this time. And now it looks like The Ultimate Opportunist might hang up his boots sooner rather than later, following an amazing 3-year run.
Edge's trainer, Ron Hutchinson, believes that Edge will have his final match this week on Smackdown in Toronto:
"There's a big thing here. A year ago, Edge had said he was gonna retire at the [2023] summer show in Toronto. And Ron Hutchinson, who is Edge's trainer and has known… pic.twitter.com/zK3i9YaqEn

According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, the Rater-R Superstar is likely to retire from WWE this week on SmackDown, at Toronto, Canada. Edge had also previously talked about retiring at a show in Canada this year. His trainer, Ron Hutchinson has also confirmed the news that Edge would be competing in his last match on this week in his hometown.
Usually WWE builds up their talents’ last match. However, this was not the case when it came to the Rated-R Superstar. He is currently scheduled to face Sheamus, who motivated and helped him get back in shape for his return in 2020. Last week, Edge and Sheamus were in a segment where they talked about how they influenced each other’s careers. The Ultimate Opportunist has seemingly handpicked his last opponent in WWE. Also, WWE’s show in Toronto this week is apparently going to be their last one in the city for a while, thus allowing the Rated-R Superstar to retire on his own terms.
Edge came back from retirement in 2020 Royal Rumble
After spending almost 9 years away from wrestling, The Ultimate Opportunist made his return in the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match as the 21st entrant. The Rated-R Superstar was finally back, after several speculations about his return to wrestling. Edge had made a surprise appearance at SummerSlam 2019, when he delivered a ring-shattering spear to Elias. Since then, it was being speculated that he would return to the ring sometime soon.

As he made his return, Edge reunited with his former tag team partner, Randy Orton- or so it seemed. Their reunion lasted a short while as they quickly turned on each other. The Viper and the Rated-R Superstar then went on to have a lengthy feud in a series of matches. Since then, Edge formed a stable called Judgement Day with Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley. Shortly after Finn Balor was introduced to the stable, Edge was kicked out, which sparked a new rivalry between the villainous group and The Ultimate Opportunist.
Although some fans think that the news of his retirement came too soon, others believe that it’s finally time for the Rated-R Superstar to hand up his boots before he gets seriously injured again. He made his return despite what doctors told him. At almost 50 years old, Edge is currently in the best shape of his life. Stay tuned for his final match in WWE this week, at SmackDown in Toronto, Canada.
