Jordan Henderson must be wishing he never made the switch to Saudi Arabia with a year left on his Liverpool contract after the Reds accepted an offer for the experienced midfielder. However, Henderson’s mind was made up about leaving.
Sadly, just a few months into his time in the Middle East, Jordan Henderson is now looking for a way out, as he’s found life over there difficult to adapt to. Ajax offered him an escape route by signing him on loan until the end of the season, but Al-Ettifaq will reportedly not sanction the move.
Jordan Henderson reportedly set to stay a Al-Ettifaq
Jordan Henderson moved to Saudi Arabia to reunite with former captain and teammate Steven Gerrard, who quickly secured a gig at the Gulf country after being axed by Aston Villa last season.
The reunion was set to be the one that would light the Saudi Arabian league alight, and it promised to be, after Al-Ettifaq showed glimpses of its potential early on in the season with Henderson leading an unlikely win against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
However, the former Liverpool captain is willing to ditch the Middle East for a return to Europe after finding it difficult to adapt to life in the Gulf. According to recent reports, Ajax are keen on providing Henderson an escape route from his misery in the Middle East, and the England international is only waiting for Al-Ettifaq to sanction the deal.
Sadly, he’s set to spend the entire season at the Middle Eastern club after the outlet refused to grant him his dream move away from the country. Despite these reports, Henderson is still working hard to force his way out of Saudi Arabia, with Ajax still keen on signing him on loan until the end of the season, where he can now try to secure a permanent move to another club.
Ajax manager confirms Henderson interest
Jordan Henderson is unsettled at Al-Ettifaq and is looking for a way out. Ajax are presenting him with an escape route from Saudi Arabia, and the club’s new manager has confirmed their interest in bringing the former Liverpool captain to the Johan Cruyff Arena on loan until the end of the season.
“There is serious talk going on with Henderson,” the Dutch manager revealed in an interview.
“He still has some things to arrange in Saudi Arabia. It could be a nice match. It’s no secret that we could use that type of player. Other guys can benefit from that,” he added.
Despite being 33 years old, Jordan Henderson will be bringing a lot of experience with him to an Ajax side that is working its way back to form after a disastrous start to the season. Henderson won the UEFA Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool and got the silver medal twice for being runner-up in 2018 and 2022, beaten by Real Madrid on both occasions.
Henderson’s experience will help Ajax get back to the top of Dutch football, and winning the championship may be out of reach this season, but the Englishman could help Ajax secure European football next season.
