Transfer Rumors: LAFC reportedly in advanced talks to secure Tottenham GK Hugo Lloris for MLS move

Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham Hotspurs’ goalkeeper since 2012, making him one of the longest-serving goalkeepers in the Premier League for more than a decade now, though he cannot be regarded as one of the most decorated in the Premier League despite his long years at the club.

In his prime, Hugo Lloris also contributed immensely to the success of the French national team. In 2018, he won the World Cup with France while also finishing as a runner-up in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. However, Hugo Lloris, now 37 years old, may be finally concluding his career in the Premier League, with Los Angeles FC interested in signing him.

Lloris has been with Tottenham Hotspur since 2012, following stints with Lyon (2008–12) and Nice (2005–08) in France’s Ligue 1. His stint with France has also been somewhat successful, as he helped the national team win the 2018 World Cup in Russia and also become the runner-up in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

What is Hugo Lloris’ current contract with Tottenham?

Hugo Lloris has spent more than a decade at Tottenham Hotspur already. His first contract with the club expired in 2022, but he renewed it and remained at the club. He joined the club in 2012 from Lyon, and the goalkeeper holds the record for the most Premier League appearances for Tottenham.

Speaking on the need for Lloris to sign a new contract, Conte, the Tottenham manager, said: “It is important our captain renews his contract, not only for one year, but two years.”

On his renewal, Lloris himself stated: “I feel really happy, obviously for me, but also for my family, to extend my stay in London and at Spurs for the next two years.

“I feel it’s a privilege to play football and to play for such a big club like Spurs. Also, the relationship with the fans is important for me. In the last few months, I’ve felt their support even more than before. So, the decision was really easy to take for me.”

Hence, Lloris signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club till 2024. Seeing that the summer of 2024 is fast approaching, the French goalkeeper may be looking for a new destination, with LAFC interested in his signature.
