The 2023 NFL regular season is in full swing, with the top teams vying for playoff spots and the struggling ones desperately trying to salvage their reputations. Beyond the intense on-field action, the analysis and commentary provided by former football players have always been a focal point of attraction for sports enthusiasts.
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman is one such ex-player who has remained closely connected to the football world even after hanging up his cleats. In addition to his insightful sports commentary, the ESPN Monday Night Football announcer recently made headlines for addressing an ongoing rumor suggesting his resemblance to rap mogul Jay-Z.
Troy Aikman addresses the Jay-Z meme
In 2017, a fan made a striking discovery when they noticed a remarkable resemblance between Troy Aikman and Jay Z in a photograph. The news of this uncanny similarity spread rapidly and garnered widespread attention within moments. Even a Reddit user, known as BlantGod, shared a side-by-side comparison of the two celebrities, highlighting the striking likeness between them.
In the Week 6 match between the Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers that hit the headlines for Austin Ekeler’s helmet incident, the rapper was present in the stadium as a guest. When he was caught by the camera for a moment, Troy told his colleagues about the meme circulating about their similarity.
“Yeah, there’s a meme that’s going around; people think that’s my doppelganger, you know? Me and Jay-Z, how ‘bout that?” he said while giggling.
The three-time Super Bowl champion also addressed the rumor while appearing in a recent episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out. He said he is aware of the doppelganger meme while doubting if AI had been used to make the picture look more alike.
“Yes, I am aware of that. A white Jay-Z — there was a meme, it still pops up in my feed from time to time. I don’t, I don’t know what … I think this was before everything kind of went AI, I don’t know what’s real and what’s not, so I don’t know if that was actually an unedited picture of me, but, pretty scary.”
While fans always find ways to draw similarities among celebrities, both the rapper and ex-NFL star look fairly similar. Their facial structure, including the chin, eyes, and forehead made them look like twins.
Ex-Cowboys QB’s critical assessment of Mike McCarthy
The Dallas Cowboys’ offense, which recently faced a setback against the San Francisco 49ers, has struggled this season, averaging only 21.2 offensive points per game. This marks a decline of 5.2 points per game compared to the previous season when Kellen Moore was their offensive coordinator, as reported by CBS Sports.
Additionally, under head coach Mike McCarthy’s leadership, the team has fallen to 27th place in terms of red zone offense, a significant drop from their top-ranking performance last season.
To address these issues, the Cowboys are in dire need of focusing on various aspects, including offensive strategy, play-calling, execution, coaching, player health and performance, and the effectiveness of their offensive line, in order to enhance their offensive performance and regain their red zone efficiency.
Seeing this downfall in the O-line Aikman didn’t shy away from calling out Mike for his failure to boost that line of the ball.
“It’s been (was) an offense under Kellen Moore that scored a lot of points. They moved the football, And (this new offense) has not. There’s no other way to say it. It has not been as efficient. And I know that Mike (McCarthy) has wanting to run the football, they’ve not run the ball particularly well. here tonight.”
The Cowboys coach earlier said he wanted to run the damn ball, indicating to maintain possession and not wear out his defense, but it has not resulted in a good aftermath. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers under their new offensive coordinator and playmaker Moore are averaging five more points per game with him compared to last season.
