Harry Kane is one of the most prolific players of his generation, and not just for club football. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker, who now plays in Germany for Bayern Munich, is an important part of the England team, which he captains. It’s been said many times by pundits that if England has any shot at winning a major trophy, Harry Kane is their best shot.
Despite an unconvincing performance last night against North Macedonia, Harry Kane believes his country has a great shot to conquer the next Euro in 2024. The Bayern Munich man came off the bench to force an own goal to help his country draw level after going behind in the first half.
Harry Kane on England’s performance in Euro 2024 qualifiers
England has been one of the best teams in the qualifying rounds of the next Euro, which will be taking place in Germany next year. England has accrued 20 points from its eight matches in the group, winning six and drawing two. The last stalemate came in an unconvincing 1-1 draw against North Macedonia, where England had been tipped to complete a rout.
Harry Kane, who started the game from the bench, having lost his place to Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa in the starting 11 in an apparent rotation of the squad, came on to force an own goal in the 58th minute of the game to make the scoreline 1-1 after England had gone behind in the opening half.
Despite the unconvincing performance, Harry Kane quickly took to social media to applaud his team’s unbeaten run in the qualifiers, signifying his readiness to conquer the tournament in Germany next year.
“Not the win we wanted but an unbeaten qualifying campaign and top of the group. Bring on the Euros in the summer. Thanks for all the support,” the England captain posted on social media.
Kane, who has been on fire for Bayern this season, recently named Lionel Messi as his ideal teammate, believing the Argentine would have provided him with a lot of assists.
North Macedonia vs England match highlights
England went into the game against North Macedonia as the favorite to claim all three points. However, a much-changed starting 11 comprising debutant Rico Lewis of Manchester City and fringe players like Watkins and Guehi failed to deliver the expected result.
Despite claiming 75% of the possession, England went behind just before half-time in the 41st minute when Enis Bardhi atoned for a missed penalty to score the rebound.
England thought they had gotten a goal back in the 50th minute when Jack Grealish scored, but a VAR review reversed the decision, and England were left to continue chasing the game.
Harry Kane, who was brought on for Ollie Watkins in the 58th minute, forced an own goal less than a minute after he was introduced to put England back in the game. The Three Lions continued to miss chances and the own goal proved enough to secure an important away draw for the Euro 2020 finalist.
Harry Kane continues to be an important player for club and country despite Thomas Tuche’s hope of reuniting with Kylian Mbappe at Bayern Munich after Real Madrid reportedly dropped interest in the Frenchman.
