UFC fans believe Tony Ferguson must ‘retire’ after ‘El Cucuy’ shares training session footage following Paddy Pimblett loss

Tony Ferguson lost his recent fight to Paddy Pimblett and thereby claimed the infamous record of the longest active losing streak. The former interim lightweight champion has the record for the longest win streak in the lightweight division with 12; a record he shares with Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson is now a pale shadow of what he once was. On his heyday, Ferguson was the Boogeyman of the division with many touting him as the only guy that can defeat the undefeated Khabib. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were scheduled to fight five times but the fight never materialized.

Tony Ferguson shares first workout video after Paddy Pimblett loss

Since losing against Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title at UFC 249, Ferguson went on to lose against Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, Bobby Green, and Paddy Pimblett. The loss against Chandler was particularly devastating. His fight against Green was also competitive until an eye poke by Green.

Ferguson recently shared his first workout video since the loss to Pimblett. In the video, Ferguson was training with a speedball and the pace of the training was very slow when compared to the training he did in his prime. Ferguson captioned the video, “”Opera Non-Verba” ⚔️🕶️ -CSO- 🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽”.

Opera Non-Verba is the Spanish translation of ‘Deeds Not Words’ and Ferguson was subtly hinting that action speaks louder than words. CSO is the name that he gave to himself as the unofficial Chief Security Officer of the UFC.

Ferguson was urged to retire after UFC 296 by UFC CEO Dana White. However, Ferguson does not seem to be in line with the idea as he hopes to continue fighting in the UFC in 2024. The overwhelming sentiment in the MMA community is for Ferguson to retire.

Fans urge Tony Ferguson to retire

Tony Ferguson’s recent training video did not go unnoticed by MMA fans. Seeing a pale shadow of the prime Ferguson was difficult for the fans to stomach. They provided their thoughts about Ferguson and his fighting career in the comments section.

“7 times getting beat time to retire,” commented one fan who said that the long losing streak was a sign for Ferguson to retire. It needs to be noted that BJ Penn, one of the legends of the sport also had a 7 fight losing at the end of his career.

“fight clay guida and just retire please,” commented another fan who suggested that Ferguson fight fellow veteran Clay Guida and retire. Guida is stylistically a winnable matchup even for Ferguson, who’s not in his prime.
