After his 2nd title bout loss to Jon Jones, Cyril Gane is now preparing for his much-anticipated octagon return. Initially hyped up as a potential champion down the line, the Frenchman has had an extremely poor show in both of his championship bouts.
Light heavyweight fighter Anthony Smith and returning heavyweight Tom Aspinall recently discussed ‘Bon Gamin’s fighting style and attempted to pinpoint the massive hole in his game.
Anthony Smith labels Ciryl Gane as a one-trick pony
Both Anthony Smith and Tom Aspinall were recent guests on the ‘Believe You Me’ podcast hosted by Michael Bisping. During their appearance, the two light heavyweight fighters engaged in a detailed discussion covering various aspects of the UFC, including their insights on Cyril Gane’s upcoming fight.
When discussing the French fighter, Snith didn’t mince words, “Listen, with no disrespect to Ciryl Gane, but he’s kind of a one-trick pony, you know, his one-trick is very, very good. But there’s really no holes. There’s nowhere he can really exploit with you.” Smith said.
With contenders like Sergey Spivak, Tom Aspinall, and Sergei Pavlovich on the rise. Gane will probably need to diversify his game if he wishes to perform better against the new generation. Especially considering his awful ground game, he should put much of his focus on that department.
Update on Ciryl Gane’s UFC return
Cyril is scheduled to step back into the octagon in next month’s UFC Fight Night against Sergey Spivak. In an interview with MMA Junkie’s Farah Hannoun, Bon Gamin recalled his fight experience with Jon Jones.
Gane’s most recent octagon appearance was at UFC 285 on March 4, where he faced Jon Jones in the main event. The ex-light heavyweight champion secured victory by forcing Bon Gamin to submit with a guillotine choke.
It seems that there’s a prevailing belief that Gane was deeply affected by the manner in which he experienced loss against Bones. Gane himself has stated that he felt at ease in front of Jones during various stages like weigh-ins and measuring day, but his apprehension about facing Jones began at the start of the fight week.
“Yes. This is a possibility. That’s why it’s a little bit strange. When I walked to the cage, I was ok. When I started the fight, I was ok. So we don’t know exactly.” Gane said.
Is Cyril Gane now the toughest and most talented French Heavyweight combat sports athlete in history? Or does that title still belong to Jerome Le Banner? Love to hear your thoughts, especially if your from France. #UFC #MMA #kickboxing pic.twitter.com/GAZMlLGAuz
