UFC icon Conor McGregor drops bombshell update on Justin Gaethje bout, announcing fight already lined up after December clash with Michael Chandler

The rumors that Conor McGregor is making plans for his return to the UFC somehow seem to be getting stronger, despite not yet being a part of the USADA program required for his octagon comeback.

Yet, there’s still doubt surrounding whether this could be another tactic for the former two-division UFC champion to stay in the MMA community’s spotlight, much like his usual approach of controversial off-octagon actions and Twitter disputes.

Conor McGregor drops major update on bout vs Justin Gaethje

Lately, The Notorious has been exchanging words with lightweight superstar Justin Gaethje, hinting at a potential fight. The recent impressive performance of the new BMF champion has sparked excitement for a potential clash with McGregor.

However, McGregor’s immediate focus seems to be on his post-TUF fight against Michael Chandler, along with a desire to complete his trilogy against Nate Diaz.

During an interview with combat sports reporter Gareth A. Davies on talkSport, at The O2 Arena in London, McGregor unveiled his ambitious strategy saying, ā€œChandler next, December. And then Gaethje ā€˜BMFā€™ (title fight). And then weā€™ll do Nate trilogy.ā€

Gaethje’s victory over Dustin Poirier, with a second-round KO in UFC 291 headliner, didn’t seem to overly impress McGregor. Mystic Mac confidently took to Twitter, asserting that he could knock out Gaethje with a single punch, signaling his interest in facing The Highlight.

Conor McGregor announces fight with Micheal Chandler still on

This exchange between McGregor and Gaethje has raised questions among fans about whether Michael Chandler’s chances for a fight might be impacted.

Nevertheless, in a recent ESPN interview, Chandler expressed his confidence that his bout with McGregor will still materialize, dismissing concerns about a potential Gaethje-McGregor match.

Chandler remains resolute that he can secure a fight against Conor. With both Dana White and McGregor reaffirming their intent to make the Chandler fight happen in December, it appears that the fight is not in jeopardy after all.

Nate Diaz, who is currently not under contract with the UFC, has intentions to make a comeback to MMA. Considering his recent venture into the boxing ring, there’s a possibility of a trilogy fight against McGregor taking place towards the end of 2024.

However, it needs to be remembered that an athlete needs to be under the USADA testing pool for a significant amount of time should he wishes to compete in the UFC and ‘Mystic Mac’ has not really shown any signs of doing that as of now.
