USC QB Caleb Williams discloses heart-touching reason behind his decision to paint his nails

As the 2024 quarterback draft class draws near, the rumor about the potential new acquisitions to the world of the NFL is making waves among netizens and analysts alike. The USC Torajans’ star Caleb Williams is one of the group of at least five more QBs who are already counting days to be a top draft pick.

Throughout his collegiate career, Williams has moonlighted as a hero in the sports world with his phenomenal display of athleticism. Besides that, he has another unique way of expressing himself on the field, and that is his painted fingernails. Recently, the QB opened up about his strange habit that caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans.

Caleb Williams speaks out on painting his nails

Williams adopted the habit of painting nails before his college career and continued the tradition by doing it before each game he played. During a recent interview, the young star said he likes to stand out in the crowd, and nail painting is one such initiative. He also credited his mother, Dayna, who is a former nail technician.

“Nobody else does it, I like to do new things and I don’t really care what people have to say about it.”

The QB filmed an ad for his partnership with Dr Pepper, and during a former interview with PEOPLE after the ad, he said his painted nail surprises everyone as it is considered as a female thing, and added the activity is like another way of expression for him.

“I think the nails thing kind of took everybody by surprise. I’ve been doing it before college, but it took everybody by surprise, just because you don’t always see male athletes who play football paint their nails. But I think it’s just another way of expression.”

The signal-caller tries to deliver special messages through his nail paints. During an early campaign against Washington State, he wrote out “988” on his nails, with an aim to promote the number for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. However, he also wrote controversial messages like “F— UTAH” and as aforementioned, it is his way of expressing himself on the field.

Is Caleb Williams potentially going to be the first pick in the NFL Draft 2024?

After winning the Heisman trophy in 2022, Williams is in the run of grabbing the title this year as well. Besides that title, he is also the undisputed top prospect of the 2024 NFL draft class of USC. As described by Sportskeeda, the QB’s “superpower lies in the sleight of hand, excelling at the mesh point and leaving defenders in disarray in zone read and RPO concepts.”

If the Chicago Bears hold the No.1 pick, the USC’s reigning Heisman Trophy winner can be seen donning their jersey soon. However, NIL deals can come in the way as they can offset the loss of the league’s rookie contract. Hence, the signal-caller’s father, Carl Williams earlier said in an interview with GQ’s Sam Schube that his son might back to school if the situation demands.

“He’s got two shots at the apple. So if there’s not a good situation, the truth is, he can come back to school.”

Caleb can make up his mind to spend one year more in Southern California to make heavy cash in NIL deals instead of getting drafted in the upcoming year. Now, it remains to be seen which decision he takes.

What do you think would be a reasonable decision for the QB? Tell us in the comments.
