USMNT Captain Christian Pulisic Reveals Truth Behind Viral World Cup Injury That “Wasn’t Really Supposed to Get Out.”

Christian Pulisic remains one of the most exciting American football players when fully fit. Although injuries and lack of minutes at Chelsea seem to have dealt a blow to his confidence and form, the truth remains that the USMNT captain is talented and could fulfill his potential in an enabling team like AC Milan.

His time at Chelsea was a complete disaster, although many may argue that he won one of soccer’s dream trophies – the UEFA Champions League, which he lifted with Chelsea in 2021. Nevertheless, besides that, Pulisic’s time at Chelsea was far from enviable. Injuries and a lack of stability mostly hampered the former Dortmund winger’s time at Chelsea.

Pulisic will now try to realize his dreams in Italy with AC Milan, where he should finally be able to play with less pressure and expectations.

USMNT captain Christian Pulisic recalls his viral World Cup injury photo

Christian Pulisic has recently recalled his viral World Cup injury photo in an interview with Taylor Rooks. The USMNT captain scored his team’s only goal against Iran at the 2022 World Cup but got injured in the process, and although he tried to see out the game, Aaronson ultimately replaced him at half-time.

Pulisic was taken to the hospital, where he watched the rest of the game while being treated for “pelvic contusion.” A picture of him with the caption, “So proud of my guys. I will be ready Saturday, don’t worry,” surfaced on social media and almost immediately went viral.

Speaking to Taylor Rooks in a recent interview, Pulisic revealed that the viral picture “was not supposed to get out.” Taylor Rooks asked the USMNT captain, “I don’t know if you can see this photo, but it is you when you were in the hospital bed. Tell me the story of this photo from your point of view.”

“That photo wasn’t really supposed to get out. I went straight to the hospital at half-time of that game. I was in a bit of shock at that moment, I didn’t know what was going on. I watched the game anxiously, waiting for the final whistle, and once it went off, the emotions were massive. I just put the picture on one of my private stories, and it got out,” the USMNT captain explained.

How did Christian Pulisic get injured at the World Cup 2022?

Pulisic latched on to a pass from Sergino Dest in the final group-stage game against Iran and put the ball past the Iranian goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the captain crashed his lower body against the goalkeeper’s knee, resulting in immediate discomfort in the lower abdominals.

The former Dortmund star stayed on the ground for some minutes after the goal before being helped off the pitch by the medical staff. Although he tried to return to the game, he was hauled off at half-time and taken to the hospital, where he was medically examined. Pulisic missed out on the rest of his country’s World Cup campaign, which was later won by Lionel Messi and Argentina.
