Victor Wembanyama missed Spurs blowout loss to Mavs after getting injured by ball boy in pre-game warmup session

The San Antonio Spurs were all set to face the Milwaukee Bucks but a “freak accident” sidelined the number one draft pick Victor Wembanyama. Victor has been performing fine in his rookie season but has not been able to make a real impact.

Victor has been consistent in the scoring forefront but has been seen struggling a bit when it comes to defense. He was seen sitting on the bench frustrated while his team was getting demolished by the Bucks in the second half of the game.

Victor Wembanyama injury update

Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs was sidelined before the match against the Dallas Mavericks. Although he was healthy and fine to compete in the matchup and even attended the pre-game workout session, an unfortunate incident occurred during warm-up.

The 19-year-old was practicing shooting, and after making a shot, he walked a few steps and collided with a ballboy who was standing on the baseline near the basket.

Wembanyama ended up spraining his ankle and to make matters worse it was the same ankle that he has been having problems with. The head coach of the Spurs, Gregg Popovich decided to not play the rookie and take a more cautious approach.

Greg reportedly said, “If it happened in a playoff game, I probably would have decided to play him. He (Victor) is not happy about it, but I would rather be on the conservative side since it is the same ankle that he just got a time limitation on.”

Mavs beat Spurs

The Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs in their matchup on Saturday with a final score of 144-119. Spurs hot talent Victor Wembanyama only had the option to watch the game from the sidelines.

Wembanyama was not happy about the decision but the coach decided to take a more conservative approach and decided to sit him out. The game was evenly matched between the two teams before the break but the Mavs ended up getting the upper hand after the break.

Jeremy Soochan led the Spurs in the absence of Wembanyama scoring 23 points but the Mavericks star Luka Doncic was able to get into his rhythm and delivered a dominant performance. Doncic scored 39 points, collected 12 rebounds, and provided 10 crucial assists.

The win for the Mavs ended their three-game losing streak while the Spurs were handed their 22nd loss in the 23 games they have played. Wembanyama has become a key player for the Spurs and the impact of his absence was clearly visible.
