Victor Wembanyama’s outstanding performance sinks Suns after Kevin Durant’s lighthearted quip

The Phoenix Suns took on the San Antonio Spurs this Tuesday night and Victor Wembanyama finally fulfilled the expectations the fans had of him. He delivered an elite level of performance that was even appreciated by the two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant.

With that performance, Wembanyama is quickly climbing the record books of the Spurs, cementing his name among the greatest of the franchise and also in the league. Kevin Durant applauded him during an interview and also cracked a joke.

Durant’s humorous response to Victor Wembanyama naming him favorite

The Pheonix Suns star Kevin Durant clashed with the young rising talent of the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama, for the first time in their matchup. Before they met in court, Durant was asked about his opinion on Wembanyama naming him as his favorite player. The two-time NBA champion and 13-time All-Star had a witty reply. Durant joked, “It means I am old.”

Victor was asked about his opinion of Durant after the Spurs faced defeat at the hands of the Clippers on Sunday. Wemby appreciated Durant and named him one of his all-time favorites in the NBA. He said, “I like the fact that for years, nobody found a way to completely guard him consistently.” He highlighted Durant’s defense-penetrating gameplay as one of the reasons he is among his favorite players. “This is probably the reason why he is one of my top favorite players ever. It’s going to be special, of course, but every night it is going to be special in the NBA.”

Wembanyama’s dominant display leads to historic win over Suns

Victor Wembanyama stole the show in the game against the Phoenix Suns. He was exceptional on the court and spectacular on the ball. Off the ball, he was like a hungry predator making runs that would put him in positions to receive passes and score. He was a dominant force that looked unstoppable as no one was able to guard him well. Even KD fell short at times in guarding him and it was a spectacle to watch.

Wembanyama scored 38 points in that game third most by a Spurs rookie. The only one who scored more than that is the Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion David Robinson. He also became the only teenager after the Lakers star LeBron James and the Phoenix Suns ace Kevin Durant to drop more than 35 points, collect more than 10 rebounds, and make more than 2 blocks in a game. If he can keep this form for the entirety of his career he will surely become one of the greatest of the game.
