The NFL star gained attention for his participation in the 2023 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, where he demonstrated his athleticism by leaping to catch a pass, showcasing an impressive standing vertical leap. Although this video received significant attention, it prompted NFL officials to conduct an offseason drug test for Metcalf.
Shortly after posting the video of his impressive catch, DK Metcalf revealed that he had been “randomly” selected for an NFL drug test. The news was shared through a text message purportedly received from Brian Keller, an NFL representative, indicating that the test was scheduled for February 20, 2023. NFL drug tests are part of a random selection process during the offseason, allowing for up to six tests for players.
Metcalf openly shared the notification of the drug test on his Instagram story, accompanying it with a shrug-shoulder emoji, reflecting his nonchalant response to the situation.

DK Metcalf’s contract situation
In July 2022, DK Metcalf inked a lucrative contract extension with the Seahawks, securing his future with the team for three years. The substantial deal, valued at $72,000,000, features a hefty signing bonus of $30,000,000 and guarantees totaling $58,200,000, per Spotrac.
With an average annual salary of $24,000,000, Metcalf stands to earn a significant income over the course of his contract while the base salary for the upcoming season is set at $13,000,000.
Notably, if he remains on the roster beyond the 5th day following the start of the 2024 waiver period, his 2024 salary will be entirely guaranteed. Presently, his contract carries a notable cap hit of $24,500,000 while the dead cap value stands at $36,000,000. Reportedly, the Seahawks are considering trading of their vet player for roster gaps.
