Bobby “King” Green recently called out fighters to take up a short-notice fight against him after his original opponent Dan Hooker had to withdraw due to injury. The bout was scheduled for five rounds in the co-main event of UFC Austin.
Now, on fight week, Green had an altercation with one of the crew members of Arman Tsarukyan, who will be headlining the event against Beneil Dariush. It needs to be noted that it is not Tsarukyan who tussled with Green.
Bobby Green claims Arman Tsarukyan and his team attacked him
Bobby Green was scheduled to fight fellow veteran UFC lightweight Dan Hooker in the co-main event of UFC Austin. The fight was announced as a 5-round co-main event at the insistence of UFC CEO Dana White, who wanted the fight to be the main event of a PPV.
Unfortunately, Hooker injured his hand again, which was broken at UFC 290 when he fought Jalin Turner. After Green challenged fighters to step up on short notice, it was Turner who ultimately stepped up to face “King” Bobby. This was after many including the likes of Rafael Dos Anjos, Terrance McKinney, and Jared Gordon showed interest in the fight.
Nevertheless, Green was faced with an unfortunate incident at the UFC host hotel with a member of Arman Tsarukyan’s team. Apparently, a member of Tsarukyan’s team tried to jump on Green, but Green claims that he landed a shot on his attacker. Green shared the story on his Instagram Live.
“I’m not starting nothing with nobody but if you start that shit with me, I’m definitely finishing it.”, Green said on his IG live. He further added, “I sucked one of his homies”.
Green said that he was not the instigator of the incident but he was vigilant enough to counterattack. Moreover, Green’s management team, Iridium Sport Management released a statement condemning the attack and defending Green’s self-defense reaction.
Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan feature on same fight card
Even though Bobby Green and Arman Tsarukyan had a tussle, they are not fighting each other. However, they both feature in UFC Austin, with Green fighting in the co-main event against Jalin Turner and Tsarukyan headlining the event against Beneil Dariush. They all compete in the lightweight division of the UFC.
Green is coming off consecutive victories over Tony Ferguson and Grant Dawson, with both fights earning him a Performance of the Night bonus. His original opponent, Dan Hooker, was also coming off consecutive victories but his current opponent Jalin Turner is on a two-fight losing skid.
In the main event of UFC Austin, Beneil Dariush, and Arman Tsarukyan will be hoping to inch closer to a lightweight title shot against Islam Makhachev. Tsarukyan fought Makhachev on his UFC debut and gave the Russian the toughest fight of his UFC career. Dariush was close to a title shot but lost to Charles Oliveira at UFC 289.
Interestingly, both Green and Tsarukyan fought Makhachev, and the fights went different ways. If the fight against Tsarukyan was tough, the fight against Green was one of the easiest fights of Makhachev’s career. However, it needs to be noted that Green took the fight on short notice after Rafael Dos Anjos withdrew.
