Watch: Carlos Alcaraz exhibits excellent technique in practice at the ATP Finals, despite injury rumours

Carlos Alcaraz’s 2023 season has been two-sided. After the Spanish star defeated Novak Djokovic to win the Wimbledon Championship fans were hoping to see him win more titles. But the 20-year-old tennis player is yet to impress since then.

With the recent early exits in the Shanghai Masters and Rolex Paris Masters including losing his world No. 1 spot to Djokovic, the youngster has not lived up to the bidding. However, Alcaraz looks to have put all the misfortune behind him as he trained hard for his Nitto ATP Finals debut in Turin.

Carlos Alcaraz joins Nitto ATP Finals practice

Yesterday, Carlos Alcaraz arrived at the Pala Alpitour arena in Turin on Wednesday for the ATP Tour Finale of the season and the youngster enjoyed his first practice session on the center court with junior World No. 1 Joao Fonseca.

In a video, Carlos Alcaraz was training with an excellent forehand technique. Last year would have been Alcaraz’s debut after he had qualified for the year-end championship, but injury forced him to withdraw.

Carlos Alcaraz looks ready to compete in the prestigious eight-man Nitto ATP Finals for the first time. With six titles garnered this season by Alcaraz, the Spaniard will be hoping to add a seventh to his 2023 collection between 12 and 19 November.

There are other seven competitors who are hoping for the same in the singles field: Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune. Rune and Alcaraz are 20-year-old the youngest players making their debut this season.

Carlos Alcaraz injury rumours

In October, Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel due to a foot injury, but revealed that it was a minor concern rather than something that force him out of the Rolex Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in Turin. Yet when asked whether he has any injury worries heading into his Paris Masters opening match which he lost to Roman Safuillin, Alcaraz admitted he still felt pain but hoped it won’t affect him.

“I’m not gonna say that I’m 100% because it could be a lie,” Alcaraz said. “You know, at this time of the year, you know, after a long year, I think almost every player has a little bit of problems in their bodies, you know. I’m feeling in that way. I’m feeling a little bit of pain, you know, but I had a really good recovery these weeks.”

“I’m coming here feeling well enough, you know, to do a good result here. There are a lot of great players that are playing at a high level, you know, so I think that the draw is really, really open, and a lot of players can win this tournament.”, he added.

The tennis star is yet to reach a competition final since losing to Novak Djokovic at the Cincinnati Open final In August. At the Rolex Paris Master, Carlos Alcaraz fell to shocking defeat in the opening rounds and at the Shanghai Masters the tennis star lost to the in-form Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16.

Alcaraz is 63-10 this year, a match record that is still better than last season’s 57-13, which was good enough for him to finish 2022 as the world No. 1. He will be hoping to write history books if he eventually wins the ATP Finals in Turin becoming the youngest player to win the competition since Lleyton Hewitt in 2001.
