The Los Angeles Chargers finished their last season with a 10-7 record while going 5-3 at home and 5-4 on the road. They finished the campaign after embracing a loss in the Wild Card Round to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Two years ago, the Chargers hired their current head coach Brandon Staley with sky-high expectations, albeit his first two seasons with the team hit the headlines several times with criticism and inconsistency. However, their HC remained firm on his position as he delivered motivational words to his squad ahead of their regular season opening match against the Miami Dolphins.
Chargers share footage of Leadership Council Meeting
The Chargers squad had a leadership council meeting on July 25, and the team’s head coach Brandon Staley used this opportunity to push a booster dose to his troops ahead of the new season.
“I think back to the very beginning of this. And some guys have been here for the whole time, some guys I’ve known for a long time, a little bit shorter time. But I think you guys have all earned your place here. I think what we want to be able to do is feed off you guys.”, he said.
Staley kept on saying he never felt so optimistic looking at the roster and projected his players to give a tough competition in the regular season.
“But I feel like this is the first time where I felt like, man, this group of guys can go and carry us. You guys can go carry us together in all three phases.”
BR Report’s journalist Gary Davenport earlier said the HC must ensure at least one playoff game this season if he wishes to retain his job in Los Angeles for a prolonged period. Hence, more than players, this season will be like a do-or-die situation for him.
Chargers vs Dolphins match details
The Chargers are set to face off against the Miami Dolphins in their regular season opening match on Sunday, September 10 at the SoFi Stadium. The LA Chargers are being projected to be the favorite between the two with a 10-8 record including playoffs last season. The team grabbed 13th spot in the league after scoring 23 points per game last year.
Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins went 9-8 last season and this puts them in the backfoot ahead of their next game. They started last year being one of the hottest favorite teams in the league, albeit injury of Tua Tagovailoa snapped their title hope. The Dolphins ranked 11th in the league by averaging 23.4 points in offense per game before getting slapped with a playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.
However, Tua is now healthy and the team is now looking for a potential Super Bowl run, keeping the signal-caller, and other veterans including Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle at the helm. The Chargers possess a formidable corps of threats including Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, and Austin Ekeler.
