Serie A club AS Roma resumed their domestic campaign with a 3-0 derby victory over Frosinone on Sunday. Following their European outing in the UEFA Europa League play-off leg 1 fixture, they drew against Dutch club Feyenoord, with Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku’s equalizer leveling the scoreline.
In their latest win by a three-goal margin, the new on-loan arrival, Dean Huijsen, stole the show with his stunning solo effort to score the opener in the match. Despite his sensational strike, the young defender from Juventus has faced criticism from his rival manager for his post-goal celebration.
Dean Huijsen goes viral for fabulous solo goal
The Old Lady Academy product, Dean Huijsen, has agreed to a six-month loan move until the end of the season, transferring from Turin to the Italian capital to play for Roma during the winter transfer window in January. This move is aimed at continuing his development after breaking into the Juventus first team this season.
The Dutch youth international made his debut for Juventus in October 2023, making a 12-minute cameo appearance against AC Milan in a 1-0 win. He was regularly included in the matchday squad, featuring on their bench this season. To gain Serie A exposure, he made a temporary switch to the Stadio Olimpico.
The 19-year-old lit up the Italian league with a fantastic goal to open the scoreline in the 38th minute in a regional derby. He received the ball at the halfway line, went on to dribble past a handful of opposition players to the edge of the box, and finished with a curling shot into the back of the net. This was followed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siuu’ celebration.
The promising center-back is steadily adapting to the tactics of interim manager Daniele De Rossi, who took charge of the club following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho last month. He is flourishing under the guidance of the Roma icon, having already made 8 appearances, including 4 starts, in all competitions.
Frosinone manager blasts Dean Huijsen for ādisrespectfulā celebration
Dean Huijsen’s wonder goal has made him only the second defender, alongside Lilleās Leny Yoro, to have scored two goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season, being born after 2005. However, the game against Frosinone will be an unforgettable experience for the rising talent due to the challenges he faced from the home fans.
The crowd was booing and whistling at the teenager with every touch. He was substituted after scoring the stunner to avoid receiving a second yellow card; he got booked for shushing the home crowd. Interestingly, he had snubbed Lazio in January to join Roma, which was why the host supporters were unhappy with him.
Post-match, Frosinone manager Eusebio Di Francesco lashed out at the Juventus loanee for his disrespectful celebration. He stated, āHe wanted to come here. I’m sorry because what he did was disrespectful. But I think he will learn; he’s a boy who has shown he has quality. Good for him that he went to play for Roma, but he must be respectful.ā
āHeās young and ought to make mistakes, but he should understand that some things cannot be done. I would have liked to slap him because he is young and can make mistakes but he must not be disrespectful,ā he further added.Ā
