The Bundesliga title race has taken a unique twist this season after Bayern Munich were trashed by title contender Bayer Leverkusen. Losing 3-0 to them has certainly rattled Bayern a lot, and Leroy Sane is the perfect example of it.
Leverkusen completely humiliated Bayern, with the players struggling to make any impact. This defeat has set them back in the Bundesliga title race, and it seems we could see a new winner of the trophy in years.
Leroy Sane punches camera after 3-0 defeat to Leverkusen
Xabi Alonso completely masterminded his Bayer Leverkusen side over Bayern Munich, who fell to a 3-0 defeat. It was a rare instance of the Bundesliga champions being humbled in such a crucial game.
Bayern loanee Josip Stanisic scored the first goal in the 18th minute, not hesitating to celebrate against his parent club. The second half saw full-backs Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong score, with the latter in the last minute. The impressive attacking display was not only impressive but also their defensive capability, which saw the likes of Harry Kane and Leroy Sane not even get a chance to score.
The third goal in the last minutes by Frimpong came after a quick counterattack, and Leroy Sane could not contain his anger at all after failing to stop him. Having been kept quiet all game, Sane let loose on the camera at the goalpost. He punched the camera very hard, causing it to fall over on the pitch.
The German winger has 8 goals and 11 assists so far this season and has been quite good for Bayern. But yesterday, he was completely contained thanks to Leverkusen’s defensive masterclass, and hence why he was so frustrated.
Leverkusen extend lead by 5 points in style
While Bayern Munich players and fans are understandably angry at the loss, the opposite can be said for Xabi Alonso and his men. Bayer Leverkusen’s win over their only real title challenger means they are now 5 points clear at the top of the table. The other nearest team is VfB Stuttgart, who are third, 12 points behind Leverkusen.
Bayer Leverkusen has been absolutely brilliant this season, as they are the only team in Europe’s top leagues to be unbeaten in all competitions so far. They are winning almost all of their games, scoring many goals while also conceding the fewest goals. The real reason behind their success is Xabi Alonso, who has revolutionized the squad and made his players thrive in a functioning playing system. He is heavily being rumored to take over the Liverpool job next season when Jurgen Klopp leaves.
If Leverkusen continue their winning streak, they could be crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their history. This would also end Bayern Munich’s recent dominance of the league, having won the Bundesliga last 11 consecutive years. Leroy Sane and Bayern Munich are obviously frustrated but they will have still have a chance to rectify things in the next games to come.
