Recently the city of Oklahoma garnered attention due to a tragic fatal shooting massacre, snatching the life of a 16-year-old boy. As the incident still serves as a reminder for the citizens, their city team Oklahoma Sooners again spurred an unwanted situation though it was between the players on the field.
The teams Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia took the field to move up in Big 12 competition. Surprisingly, aside from performances, they allowed the audience to take pleasure in their physical prowess by getting into a sultry brawl.
West Virginia and Oklahoma Sooners players get into a huge fight
After a first-and-goal play in the Oklahoma vs. West Virginia game, a huge brawl broke out in the end zone among multiple players. The game quickly devolved into an obscene physical brawl in Norman.
It all started after Drake Stoops’ hit in the endzone after the player caught a touchdown. The details of the altercation are yet to be known. According to FOX Sports‘ most recent account of the event, Mckade Mettauer was removed following the subsequent PAT.
Nonetheless, the fans in attendance witnessed an unwelcomed brawl between the players while the flickering light in the Memorial Stadium led them to enjoy a cinematic scrap of the players, in the break of their regular plays.
Oklahoma Sooners beat West Virginia
The game was projected to be under the control of the West Virginia team as CJ Donaldson Jr.’s 13-yard run let them enjoy an early seven-point lead during the first quarter of the game. Yet, the whole prediction changed dramatically when the Oklahoma Sooners regained possession of the game by adding 14 points to the scoreboard before ending the first quarter, while the Virginia team was unable to add a single point.
The Sooners’ ferocity from both sides of the ball assisted them in broadening the lead consistently while their rivals were consistently falling short of pocketing the Oklahoma teams’ players. As the Sooners came out as a one-side army during the whole game, they found it easy to get a 59-20 runaway victory over the WVU.
Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel was the main hero of the game, scoring 23 of his 36 pass attempts for 423 yards and five touchdowns and pulling together great athleticism to entertain his fans.
In contrast, the day added another nightmare for the Virginia team, and following the game, the team’s head coach Neal Brown himself admitted it, labeling it as “bad football”, “poor execution” and “poor coaching”.
“It was bad football. It was really poor execution and poor coaching. I didn’t see it coming, and it’s not what we’ve put on film this year.”
Although the Oklahoma Sooners scored on five consecutive possessions for 31 unanswered points, WVU mustered just 13 yards on 17 plays overall. With the victory, WVU dropped to 4-3 in Big 12 play and the Sooners climbed to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
As the winner of the brawl was undecided, the Sooners were prompted to claim themselves as the winner of the game and they successfully nailed it.
