Jailton Almeida, the undefeated Brazilian heavyweight contender in the UFC, entered the organization with a submission victory in a light heavyweight bout on the Dana White Contender Series. Almeida also made his UFC debut at light heavyweight before transitioning to the heavyweight division.
Throughout his professional MMA career, Almeida has even competed in the welterweight division. Before his appearance on the Contender Series, he exclusively fought in the Brazilian regional circuit. Recently, he had a heartwarming MMA fight with a man named Alvaro Borges, who was born with Down syndrome.
Alvaro Borges beats Jailton Almeida
Demo Fight 18 recently concluded with an interesting bout on the fight card. Jailton Almeida faced Alvaro Borges, a man living with Down syndrome. The fight wasn’t a professional MMA bout, as it was intended to bring joy to Borges.
Almeida exchanged light strikes with Borges and even took him down but refrained from capitalizing on it. Nevertheless, Borges showcased Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills, forcing the UFC heavyweight to defend against some submission attempts. In the end, Borges was awarded a unanimous decision victory.
The highlights of the fight are available on social media and fight fans applauded Almeida for his charitable efforts. It needs to be noted that the UFC itself has a program with Disabled American Veterans where UFC stars hang out with soldiers who became handicapped.
Jailton Almeida faces off against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299
Jailton Almeida is scheduled to face Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299 in a fight that could potentially have title implications. Almeida was originally scheduled to headline 2023 UFC Sao Paulo against Blaydes but Blaydes pulled out due to injury and was replaced by Derrick Lewis on short notice.
Almeida won a dominant unanimous decision victory over Lewis and called for a fight with Ciryl Gane, the former interim UFC heavyweight champion. The victory over Lewis did not yield the desired result as everybody expected the Brazilian to finish Lewis but he made some disastrous decisions inside the octagon. With a victory over Blaydes, Almeida could get a fight with Gane or Tom Aspinall.
The UFC’s heavyweight division is at a standstill as the undisputed champion Jon Jones is recovering from injury. In his absence, the UFC crowned Tom Aspinall as the interim heavyweight champion after his victory over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295.
