Recent weeks have been a treat for wrestling fans, with WWE Legends John Cena and The Rock making long-awaited comebacks. The latest shocker came on NXT as The Undertaker made a shocking return by bringing back a beloved persona.
With a career spanning for about 30 years, The Undertaker is considered as one of the greatest superstars of the Stamford-based promotion, and is one of the few globally recognized WWE superstars. He has a long series of accolades in the company, with his 21-1 WrestleMania being one of the most legendary and memorable ones.
The Undertaker is back!
This week’s WWE NXT was an obvious counter to AEW Dynamite, which is set to feature former WWE superstar Edge’s first promo in the company. WWE brought some big guns to their Tuesday Night show, with the likes of John Cena, Paul Heyman, LA Knight, Cody Rhodes making an appearance. And at the end of the show, The Undertaker made a shocking return to the black and gold brand to face Bron Breakker and share a special moment with Carmelo Hayes.
In the main event of NXT last night, former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes took on Bron Breakker in singles action. Although Hayes won the match, he was attacked by his opponent afterwards. Then in a shocking moment, The Deadman’s legendary bell dong was heard throughout the arena. The crowd instantly went into a frenzy, as The Undertaker made his way into the arena on his motorcycle. He seemingly brought back his “American Bada**” persona for this moment.
The Phenom stood face to face with Breakker, who proclaimed that he was the only “badass” in the ring. Undertaker then took a mic and told Breakker that he certainly had the potential to be a big star one day, but his moment was not tonight. He then proceeded to land a ring-shattering Chokeslam on Bron Breakker, which put him out for good.
Undertaker praised Carmelo Hayes, and the two men walked down to the backstage area together. They faced the crowd one last time and raised their fists in union, recreating The Deadman’s iconic pose as the show went off the air.
When was The Undertaker’s last match in WWE?
Hailed as one of the greatest of all times, The Undertaker certainly had a fair share of his seemingly “final” matches in WWE. His actual last match in the company was at WrestleMania 36 Night One, where he took on AJ Styles in a memorable Boneyard match. The WWE legend confirmed in his “Last Ride” documentary that it was indeed his final match in the company.
On the night of WrestleMania 36, The Undertaker seemingly ditched his infamous ‘Deadman’ persona and brought back his ‘American Badass’ gimmick for his last match against AJ Styles. It was a brilliant and innovative match, which saw a ton of great action, the use of several weapons, and multiple interferences.
Styles’ OC buddies, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, rushed to his aid during the match. However, they were swiftly dispatched by The Undertaker. In the climax of the bout, The Undertaker kicked Styles into an open grave and buried him beneath a heap of dirt to secure the victory. One of the most unforgettable moments occurred when The Phenom struck his iconic double-handed raised pose, igniting an abandoned warehouse in the background.
The Undertaker will definitely go down in history as one of the greatest, if not the greatest WWE superstar. From being feared as an Indestructible Reaper to being loved as one of the most popular superstars of all time, The Deadman definitely has come a long way. We hope to see more of him in the coming years.
