Accelerate Basketball trainer and Curry protege Brandon Payne was caught on camera helping both players hone their talents. Seeing two of the league’s best point guards collaborate is exciting for viewers and a great example of the friendship and respect that can exist between competitors.
The basketball world is watching the off-season with bated breath, hoping to see the results of all the hard work put in during training during the upcoming NBA season.
Stephen Curry and Trae Young head-to-head record
It’s hard to find a rookie NBA shooter who can compare to Stephen Curry. After being selected fifth overall in 2018, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young was immediately subjected to such comparisons. But it’s an unjustified contrast between Young and the seasoned Warrior.
Patrick Beverley, a veteran guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, recently compared Young’s ability to that of Curry on his podcast, stating of the former: “He’s changing the game. He picks up where Stephen Curry left off and makes it his own.”
What Young is doing by essentially “reinventing the game” is suspicious and should be looked into further. Young is just as capable from deep as Curry, but the numbers reveal a clear disparity. Stephen Curry has averaged 37.0 pts, 5.3 rebs, and 4.8 asts versus Trae Young in his career on the other hand Trae Young has averaged 21.5 pts, 6.8 asts, and 2.8 rebs in 4 games. While his career three-point percentage is 35.1%, it falls below 30% in the playoffs where Young has played 27 times. However, Curry’s 42.8% and 39.7% in the playoffs are far superior.
The league will never forget Young’s name again. Young has a lot of promise, but he needs to take over from someone who had a huge impact. Will he be able to, though? Let us know your opinions in the comments.
