Weeks after $186 million extension, EX-NBA star highlights Anthony Davis’ versatility over Giannis Antetokounmpo

Anthony Davis isn’t a picture of perfection on the court, he’s certainly a top player in the NBA. He is one of the best players in the league since he excels at both attack and defense. When Davis is feeling his best, he plays like an All-Star.

Sam Mitchell, a former NBA player, noted Davis’s versatility by comparing him to Giannis Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player award winner. Although he isn’t perfect, Davis is nevertheless a major factor in his team’s success thanks to his constantly impressive performance. This development comes just some time after Davis signed a contract extension with the Lakers.

Anthony Davis’ all-around skills garner more praise than Giannis

In a striking contrast, former NBA player Sam Mitchell compared Anthony Davis of the Lakers to Giannis Antetokounmpo, winner of the award twice. Mitchell went so far as to argue that Davis’s worth could increase in the postseason because of his three-point shooting and free-throw shooting skills.

Giannis has great physical tools and is tough as nails, but his shooting woes limit his attacking options. Even while the Milwaukee Bucks are capable of overcoming these limitations, they nonetheless present obstacles at times.

He said,”I can make an argument that  Anthony Davis is more valuable than Giannis come playoff time because of his ability to shoot outside and make free throws.”

Davis, on the other hand, stands out from the seven-time All-Star Giannis due to his entire skill set and the absence of noticeable deficiencies. Despite his reduced availability relative to Giannis, Davis’ versatile skills have been crucial to the Lakers’ success, helping them to remain competitive as LeBron James approaches his 40s while still having Davis on the team. Davis, at the ripe old age of 30, has become an integral part of the Lakers’ success, much to the surprise of no one.

Lakers secure Davis with lucrative $186 Million extension through 2028

The Lakers will keep Anthony Davis through 2027-28. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN stated that the 30-year-old athlete signed a three-year, $186 million max extension contract. Davis’ new contract will last until the 2027-28 NBA season and pay him $84 million over three years. Original five-year, $189 million Davis deal signed in 2020.

The Lakers quickly signed Davis on his first eligible day, offering him a three-year extension worth $62 million, one of the richest in NBA history. Before the 2019-20 NBA season, Davis had averaged 24.6 points and 10.1 rebounds. He averaged 27.2 points in the playoffs, helping the Lakers win the NBA title in 2019–20.

Davis, who was feared when healthy and playing with LeBron James, has struggled with injuries with the Lakers. His schedule limited him to 36 games in 2020-21 and 40 in 2021-22. Davis and James want to improve after finishing last in the Western Conference last year. The team’s play-in tournament comeback and playoff triumphs show that they are devoted to developing and willing to work hard to attain their goals despite regular season challenges.
