Weeks after Conor McGregor connection, Ian Garry Machado gets crossed off of Leon Edwards gym over “doubts and insecurities”

UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards has barred the rising star in the division, Ian Garry, from the Renegade gym where they both trained. This decision follows Garry’s dominant victory over Neil Magny.

Edwards and his head coach, Dan Lovell, reportedly expressed discomfort over sharing training space with Garry. Garry and Leon will both appear at the UFC 296 event. Garry faces Vicente Luque, hoping to secure a top-ten ranking. Edwards defends his welterweight title against Colby Covington.

Ian Garry Machado gets barred from Leon Edwards gym

Ian Garry Machado in an exclusive interview told The Independent that Leon Edwards and his coach expressed discomfort with him on the training mats. Garry said, “They think I might cause insecurities or doubts for Leon. I find this hard to understand.”

Garry further shared his disappointment. He said, “I know we’re both in the top 10. But I’m not challenging for the title yet. Leon’s coach called me a ‘threat’ suggests a weak mindset. Why not see the value of training with a top contender?”

However, Edwards’ perspective is also worth considering. The competitive nature of MMA and fear of strategy leaks can lead to such decisions. This change might affect Garry’s preparation for his fight against Luque at UFC 296.

With an unbeaten 13-0 MMA record, Ian Garry Machado has demonstrated his prowess inside the octagon with six victories in the UFC, making him part of the new wave of fighters in the organization. However, his removal from Team Renegade, at Edwards’ request, highlights gym politics and potential conflicts.

The intense day of training culminated in a relaxed evening. McGregor extended an invitation to Garry, his wife Layla, and a few friends to his pub, The Black Forge Inn. McGregor posted glimpses of their time on his Instagram, showcasing the growing bond between the two Irish fighters.

McGregor presumed to make his long-awaited return at UFC 300. Ian Garry Machado could fight at UFC 300 if he can quickly dispatch the former welterweight title backup fighter. It remains to be seen whether the UFC could do a PPV event in Dublin with both McGregor and Garry on it.
