Weeks after taking Team USA Olympic pledge, NBA MVP Joel Embiid set to make history with Skechers endorsement

The start of a new NBA season often brings a wave of thrilling announcements. However, this time, the exciting news centers around Philadelphia 76ers center and reigning league MVP Joel Embiid, who has decided to represent Team USA in the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The 29-year-old star, reportedly born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, has chosen to represent the USA. This decision has raised many questions, but the determined man is poised to make history with a significant endorsement deal.

Joel Embiid nearing exclusive Skechers deal

A popular footwear brand named Skechers is reportedly starting a new basketball division and looking to add a high-profile endorser to start the launch. According to reports, Joel Embiid, the current MVP of the NBA, is close to signing a contract with the company. The Athletic made this revelation in a post on X. “Joel Embiid is nearing a deal to become Skechers’ star pitchman, industry sources tell @ShamsCharania.”

While it’s reported that a deal has yet to be reached, Embiid recently wore Skechers shoes for the first time during a team practice session. This suggests that a deal could be reached soon, and he may begin wearing them in games.

Skechers are also reported to launch the new basketball division with a class of other NBA players, but Embiid is expected to be the anchor, who has proven to be a significant addition for the company as it gets into the competitive market. However, as an All-NBA player, whose personality and star power haven’t only gotten him a great endorsement, Joel Embiid will be looking to have a great season of partnership with Skechers.

Embiid decides to represent Team USA in Paris Olympics

Joel Embiid has committed to playing for the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Embiid had to make the tough decision of playing for the US over Cameroon and France. The star disclosed in a post on X earlier this October the main reason for this choice is to honor his son who was born in the US. Embiid later informed the Team USA executive director Grant Hill of his decision after the duo met at the Sixers training camp in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Embiid further justified his decision during media day. He sai, d “My goal is to play in the Olympics,”  “I love all three options. Cameroon, I’m born there. I’m from there. I always want to represent my country, but the goal is also to play in the Olympics. If we had a chance or if we would qualify for the Olympics, that would be an easy decision, but that’s still up in the air.”

Joel Embiid might have forfeited the chance of playing alongside players in France like Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama, but he could try to help the team USA regain their lost glory after a disappointing appearance last time out and most recently at the FIBA World Cup.
