The San Francisco 49ers’ offseason buzz is largely centered around Brandon Aiyuk’s contract negotiations as he approaches his fifth-year option. Amid reports hinting at an imminent extension post-draft, talks have hit a roadblock. The wide receiver even skipped voluntary offseason activities due to the unresolved contract dilemma.
General Manager John Lynch addressed the media on Monday, shedding light on the ongoing discussions surrounding Aiyuk’s contract status.
“We’re having good talks and we’ll leave it at that,” Lynch said.
The GM highlighted the significance of deadlines in negotiations with the receiver, with the potential Thursday deadline being a crucial moment. While trade offers have come in for Aiyuk, Lynch reiterated the team’s priority of securing a long-term extension for the WR.
“Our wish is that he’s here, and a part of the Niners for the rest of his career. We’re working through that.”
Despite trade speculations, including a proposed scenario involving the Los Angeles Chargers, Aiyuk’s loyalty to the 49ers remains steadfast. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell floated a trade idea by envisioning the 49ers receiving the No. 5 overall pick and additional selections in exchange for Aiyuk. However, the receiver’s commitment to the team proves his reluctance to entertain the notion of leaving his current squad.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh says Brandon Aiyuk doesn’t want to leave the 49ers
Former Bengals star T.J. Houshmandzadeh recently shared insights into the ongoing contract negotiations between the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk. Having collaborated with Aiyuk in the past, Houshmandzadeh offered a clear perspective on the matter.
Houshmandzadeh said Aiyuk is not seeking an exit from the 49ers but rather desires fair compensation for his contributions. The WR hasn’t formally requested a trade but he wants recognition for his hard work on and off the field.
“I mean, I’ve talked to B.A. He don’t want to leave San Francisco. He just wants to get paid. Just very simple. He just wants to be rewarded for the work that he’s put in,” Houshmandzadeh said, per Audacy.
Houshmandzadeh hinted at the 49ers star’s potential willingness to accept a $27 million per year offer from his team. Aiyuk himself has voiced his aspirations for equitable treatment. His willingness to engage in dialogue about his contract reflects a player who is not just concerned with his own paycheck but also with the principles of fairness and recognition within the league.
