The Las Vegas Raiders started the season with a one-point victory over the Denver Broncos but then faced a streak of three losses. Due to this, they were in desperate need of a victory, which they finally achieved in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers.
Although they couldn’t pull off an impressive win, the victory served as both consolation for the squad after three straight losses and a catalyst for them to shatter a 36-year record
Raiders notch first win over Green Bay in 36 years
The Raiders vs Packers rivalry kicked off their battle in 1968 with the Packers winning the game when the Las Vegas team was known as the Oakland Raiders.
Over the course of their rivalry, which includes 15 meetings, including one postseason game, the Green Bay Packers have emerged victorious in 9 of those contests, while the Las Vegas Raiders have claimed victory in 6 games. Their matchups over the years have been filled with intense competition and memorable moments, creating a compelling history between these two storied franchises
However, the Raiders had to accept a loss in each of their last eight games since 1990. After 36 years, they finally stopped their 8-game losing run against the Green Bay team on Monday night when they narrowly defeated the Packers 17-13.
Prior to that, the Raiders last defeated the Packers in 1986, which was almost five years before Brett Favre started for the Packers. The teams met five times during Favre’s leadership before Aaron Rodgers took over in 2008. Rodgers faced the Las Vegas team three times, and on each occasion, both quarterbacks dominated the Raiders
As neither Favre nor Rodgers were in town, Jordan Love’s leadership assisted the Las Vegas team to have the last laugh over the Packers after 36 years.
Raiders fail to score more than 18 points this season?
Since the start of the season, the offense of Mark Davis’s team has been playing horribly and consistently failing to make a good score. Every time, they used their dominant defense to propel themselves to grasp the win.
The Las Vegas sports team only scored 79 points after five games of the season. They scored 17 points in the first week, 10 in the second, 18 in the third, 17 in the fourth, and finally, 17 in the final game of the week. Their average score was 15.8 points per game, which placed them 29th in terms of points scored per game.
With the result, they helped their supporters recall their 2014 campaign, during which they also scored 79 points across five games. Even if they narrowly beat the Packers this time, it is safe to say that they cannot win the divisional title and the Super Bowl with this offensive lineup. Even the fans raised their voices to fire their head coach Josh McDaniels seeing their struggle in every game.
The Raiders are set to battle another offensive struggling team New England Patriots. Which team do you think will win the battle?
