What are the two books Serena Williams signed a deal to write and publish?

Even after retirement, Serena Williams is one of the most recognizable female tennis players in the world. The American became popular at 17 after beating Martina Hingins to win the 1999 US Open, making her the first black woman to win a major tennis championship since Althea Gibson in 1958. She went on to win 22 more Grand Slams, with a total of 367 career wins from 423 matches.

With such an amazing record, Serena Williams has signed two-book deals with Random House Publishing Group, starting with an intimate memoir in which she will reveal her extraordinary career and the obstacles and upsets she endured along her journey as one of the greatest players in history.

Serena Williams signed a deal to write and publish two books

Serena Williams has signed a two-book deal with Random House Publishing Group. The first book has been revealed to be an intimate memoir, in which she opens up about her childhood, early training with her father, Richard Williams, her distinguished career and the hurdles and the difficulties she endured along the way.

“For so long, all I was focused on was winning, and I never sat down to look back and reflect on my life and career,” said Serena while talking about her upcoming book. “Over the last year I’ve really enjoyed taking the time with my growing family to celebrate my accomplishments and explore my other passions. I couldn’t be in a more perfect place to be able to take on such a personal intimate project, and there’s no one I would rather do it with than the team at Random House.”

This will be Serena Williams’s second book. The book has not been named yet and has no publication date so far.

According to the Random House press release, the second book will be an inspirational work. They announced: “Williams will offer rules for living that draw on her experiences as a philanthropist and advocate, her career as an investment unicorn with Serena Ventures, and someone who has long sought to lift a diverse and emergent generation of young women whose aspirations are not confined to the court. An open-hearted exploration of the experiences that have shaped her life.”

Random House added that Serena Williams will share her thoughts on “overcoming scrutiny and attacks in a predominantly white and male-dominated sport, navigating devastating losses on and off the court, falling in love with tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, celebrating body diversity and expanding the confines of style in sports and pop culture, bringing awareness to maternal health disparities, and being a devoted mother to her daughters, Olympia and Adira.”

Serena Williams’s first book was a memoir in 2009 titled On the Line, and a picture story titled The Adventures of Qai Qai released last year.

Did Serena Williams retire from professional tennis?

Serena Williams, 42, announced an emotional retirement in September 2022 after her third-round loss to Ajla Tomljanovic at the US Open but in October, Serena revealed that she was evolving away from professional tennis.

Serena Williams made this known at conference San Francisco “I am not retired. The chances (of a return) are very high. You can come to my house, I have a court. I still haven’t really thought about (retirement).”

“But I did wake up the other day and go on the court and (considered) for the first time in my life that I’m not playing for a competition, and it felt really weird. It was like the first day of the rest of my life and I’m enjoying it, but I’m still trying to find that balance,” Serena Williams added.
