The former Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter has emerged as a great weapon for the Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineup after they picked him as the No. 9 overall pick this season. The rookie player seemingly added another wing to the high-flying team, which prompted them to be the only team with six wins after upsetting the Miami Dolphins in Week 7.
Though rookie defensive lineman Jalen Carter grew up idolizing NFL legends, during the Eagles’ Week 7 game, he presented himself as a follower of NBA legend LeBron James.
What does flopping mean in the NFL?
“Flopping” in football signifies the strategy of faking or misrepresenting an injury to draw the referee’s attention and receive a penalty. That may cause a team to maintain possession or gain yards. However, engaging in such unsportsmanlike conduct during a game is obviously cheating and should result in consequences.
The NFL authorities place a strong focus on upholding fair competition practices and the integrity of the game. NFL teams, players, and coaches may face penalties and forfeited draft picks if they engage in unsportsmanlike behavior, as the league has policies and procedures in place to discourage and punish such behavior.
Bleacher Report took the initiative to let the NFL teams know the result of such a kind of act in 2013.
“Be advised that violators of this policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action for conduct detrimental to the game which could include fines of coaches, players, and clubs, suspensions or forfeiture of draft choices. We have been fortunate that teams and players have consistently complied with the spirit of the rule and teams are strongly urged to continue to cooperate with this policy.”
The players should keep in mind that the NFL unfolds the opportunities for its players to pass, score, and win or lose a game at the national level rather than practicing a player’s prowess in acting.
Jalen Carter blames his ridiculous flop on LeBron James
Though flopping is not a common occurrence on the NFL field and is generally discouraged, Jalen Carter found it interesting to give it a try on the field while his teammate A.J Brown was trying to pull over the victory and his team ended up, having a 31-17 win over the Dolphins.
The Eagles were acquainted with the defensive tackle’s athletic prowess, yet they were so unaware of their player’s acting prowess that he let them know in the second quarter of the game.
Jalen Carter, a defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, got into a heated exchange with Miami Dolphins’ offensive guard Austin Jackson at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia following a Dolphins run play. In the midst of their confrontation, Jackson retaliated by delivering a left-handed slap to Carter’s helmet as the Eagles player continued to push him. In response, the rookie player dramatically fell backward onto the grass.
Perhaps his lack of confidence in his team’s chances of winning prompted him to try acting. After the game, Jalen Carter also revealed his idol’s name behind the scenes, and it turned out to be none other than LeBron James.
“I was just thinking about LeBron! I was like, ‘Oh, what would LeBron do?’” he said.
