What is inside $510,000,000 Spurs training facility “The Rock”? Taking sneak peek inside the state of art establishment

In the heart of San Antonio, where the echoes of past victories resonate with the promise of the future, there is a place where hardwood magic comes to life. This architectural masterpiece, named “The Rock,” has become the new training facility for the San Antonio Spurs as they prepare for the upcoming season.

With the unveiling of “The Rock” after seven years of planning and construction, we will explore what makes this structure so magnificent and how it serves the franchise’s immediate and future needs. Countless hours of sweat and sacrifice were invested in forging this beauty.

The construction of “The Rock”, located in the former rock quarry in far Northwest San Antonio, began in November 2021. The facility’s images were posted on Instagram by BoardRoom where the Spurs Director of Basketball Operations Phil Cullen said the structure is the largest mass timber building in Texas and the first for American professional sports.

Cullen said, “It’s kind of the first in the @NBA as far as a concept where we’re developing a membership-only affinity club. Essentially, our club memberships will have access to sight lines into our court and just a different experience that we’re able to provide.”

The facility includes player lounges, coach locker rooms for both men and women, a wellness room equipped for nursing moms, hydrotherapy pools, a team auditorium, and a dining area for player meals. The facility has a gym area, a research center dedicated to studying human performance, a 22-acre green space with trails, a 7.5-acre dog park, and the Frost Plaza (a public outdoor event plaza with a restaurant yet to be opened).

The facility also has an Affinity Club for Spurs fans and members of the community with exclusive access to the center to be open in early 2024. The facility doesn’t only look attractive on the outside, but also on the inside with interesting features, which could boost the confidence of the team for the new season.

Spurs to face Rockets at AT&T center

With the season-opening imminent, the Spurs will be looking to translate their boosted confidence to the court. Just before the regular season kicks off, the Spurs will continue with their preseason match against the Rockets at AT&T Center on 19 Oct. 2023.

The Spurs have been quite impressive in their preseason games, they had taken a victory over the Miami Heat with a 120 – 104 score line. The star of the show was one of their talented players Victor Wembanyama as he helped his team win at the Frost Bank Center.

The AT&T Center (Frost Bank), the ground of the San Antonio Spurs, which was opened on 18 Oct. 2002 as SBC Center and seats 18,418 for basketball games, will be ready for the showdown as they prepare for the season. The AT&T Center has been the Spur’s fortress ground as they have won five NBA championships while having their games there. The expectation is that the new training ground ‘The Rock’ will bring more success to the team in the near future.
