Akron, a city in Ohio, has been home to several talented athletes in the world, including football player Andy Alleman, legendary basketball player Art Becker, and LeBron James, to mention but a few. Akron has been a part of the history of some of these athletes, including LeBron, who had a rough experience while growing up in Akron.
Though LeBron has moved past his Akron days to become one of the wealthiest NBA stars, he still holds Akron close to his heart. However, the LeBron James Family Foundation now has a chance to impact the people of Akron with their multimedia museum, with the opening date fixed.
What is inside the LeBron James Museum?
LeBron James’ journey from basketball prodigy to NBA scoring champion is being honored at its origin. A LeBron James museum dedicated to James and his numerous milestones, called LeBron James’ Home Court, is set to open in Akron on Nov. 25.
This multimedia museum will feature a recreation of the apartment where he and his mother, Gloria, lived. It will also showcase items from his childhood, high school playing career, and championship victories with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers. The museum is part of House Three Thirty, a facility initiated by James’ foundation to benefit the community where he grew up.
LeBron James has always wished to put Akron on the map being is his town, “My dream was always to put Akron on the map, so to have a place in my hometown that allows me to share my journey with my fans from all over the world means a lot to me,” said LeBron James.
Displayed items will include the all-white suit James wore at the 2003 NBA Draft, his jersey from the McDonald’s All-American game, and an original backboard and rim from St. Vincent–St. Mary High School, where James initially captured the attention of basketball enthusiasts as a teenager. Now in his 21st season as a pro at the age of 39, James, a four-time NBA champion, surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the league’s all-time leading scorer last year.
LeBron James excited to announce details of the museum
LeBron James is pleased to announce that the LeBron Family Foundation will open its Museum in Akron, Ohio, on November 25. LeBron James Family Foundation confirms the story tweeting, “Opening November 25 inside House Three Thirty… @KingJames’ Home Court. The world’s first and only official museum dedicated to the journey and milestones of the kid from Akron!”
Tickets for the museum are priced at $23, a fitting tribute to “The King” who wore the No. 23 for most of his NBA career. Children under five can enter for free, and the operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
Private tours are available for groups of over 25, but they need to be scheduled in advance. Groups interested in touring the museum can call (+1) 330-572-2885. The proceeds from the museum will support other programs at House Three Thirty.
According to CBS Sports, plans for the museum started last year after the opening of House Three Thirty, a venue LeBron James acquired in 2020. He renovated and named it after the area code for Akron phone numbers.
In addition to the museum, House Three Thirty already houses a Starbucks and Chase Bank. The plan is to add more stores, including a clothing store, an ice cream parlor, and a taco shop by the end of next year.
